Escalation in Palestine seems inevitable. Pressured by the pro-war sectors of their countries, Western delegations to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) rejected an important resolution proposed by the Russian Federation, which could have guaranteed a partial ceasefire in the conflict. As a result of the disapproval, the war quickly worsened and, the day after the UNSC decision, a hospital was bombed in Gaza, generating a serious humanitarian crisis.
The Russian text established minimum terms to stop the conflict and achieve a humanitarian solution. Violence against civilians was absolutely condemned, with criticism on both sides. Furthermore, a humanitarian ceasefire was requested to enable measures of support for civilians affected by the conflict. China, the United Arab Emirates and Mozambique supported Moscow’s proposal.
However, Western countries do not seem interested in seeking peace, but in collectively punishing the people of Gaza. The resolution was vehemently opposed by the US, UK, France and Japan. Adding these votes to the six abstentions, the result was a failure to achieve approval of the measure.
In their justifications, Western countries stated that the Russian document could not be accepted because it did not specifically condemn Hamas. This type of rhetoric sounds absolutely unjustified since the condemnation of all types of illegal violence against civilians was made by Russia, and there is no need to cite the names, which would only further increase tensions.
“Explaining” her vote against peace, Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield, US representative to the UN, said:
“Unfortunately, Russia’s resolution presented today does not meet all of these responsibilities. Russia’s resolution, put forward without any consultations, makes no mention of Hamas – none. By failing to condemn Hamas, Russia is giving cover to a terrorist group that brutalizes innocent civilians. It is outrageous, it is hypocritical, and it is indefensible. Colleagues, the United States could not support Russia’s resolution – which, in ignoring Hamas’ terrorism, dishonors victims. We agree that this Council should take action, but we have to get it right. And we’ll work intensively with all members on the Council to do so (…) And we cannot allow this Council to unfairly shift the blame to Israel and excuse Hamas for its decades of cruelty.”
As we can see, there is a desperate attempt by the US to associate Russia with Hamas and make it a party to the conflict. But all of this is a lie, since Moscow has a neutral stance towards long-lasting conflict, with a critical opinion on the attitude of both sides. Russia advocates a two-state solution with Palestine having East Jerusalem as its capital, which is an impartial attitude in the current war. But the West appears willing to support Israel’s policy of unlimited expansionism, which will only lead to more conflict and hostility.
To make matters worse, the West’s bellicose stance quickly had direct effects on the war. On October 17, a massive attack was launched against Al Ahli Arab, a Christian hospital in Gaza, killing hundreds of civilians, including children, women and elderly people. Israel expectedly accused the Palestinians of having carried out the attack, but the evidence suggests that Tel Aviv is to blame. There are even reports that the missile used in the crime was a US-supplied JDAM.
Regardless of who carried out the attack, however, the main point is that this would have been avoided if the previous day Western countries had not boycotted the Russian proposal for a humanitarian ceasefire. To endorse their unrestricted support for Israel, the Western powers accepted the possibility of escalation and are now seeing the consequences of their irresponsible actions.
Around the world, experts are already accusing the Collective West of being co-responsible for the hospital massacre. For example, China-based Emirati political analyst Ebrahim Hashem said on his social media:
“When Western bloc, represented by USA, UK, France and Japan, voted against recent Security Council resolution calling for humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, they basically gave green light to the Zionist to commit the hospital crime. These 4 governments are accomplices.”
As a result, protests have increased across the Arab and Islamic world. Demonstrators call for military intervention in favor of Palestine and an end to diplomatic relations with the West and Israel. Also, the armed groups of the Iran-led Axis of Resistance appear close to an intervention and there are several signs that the war in Palestine will reach a full scale in the coming days.
All of this could be avoided if American, French, English and Japanese diplomats prioritized peace over pro-Israel militancy. More than that, the case shows the UN’s failure to prevent large-scale conflicts, with the organization moving closer and closer to the same end that the League of Nations had. As said by the Russian delegation, the UN Security Council has become hostage to the interests of the Collective West.
In this scenario, either institutional reforms are carried out or we will have an open situation of global conflict soon.

at this time, with the public outcry where islamic terrorists can be heard lamenting that their own missile hit the hospital, this news is the dung of the kremlin parrot.
schlomo ur shift is over, im taking over now.
gaza bombed their own hospital, we have no proof but just trust me bro. by the way i was paid to say this, but still dont trust the russian propaganda bros
missile? the israeli narrative is that it was a rocket from one of their many barrages. a grad rocket with 50lbs of explosive doesn’t cause destruction on this scale but a 500lb jdam certainly does.
evil zionists, even with footage of massive air strike, the killer’s still denied.
“however, western countries do not seem interested in seeking peace”
nor are roman swine who spew forth hypocritical platitudes for “world peace” while working day and night to sow division amongst neighboring countries.
research which investment funds in murica, england, zioland hold majority shares in “global defense contractors”.
gaza and cuba are the way they are as a sign of what will happen to you if you go against the ones who created this version of israel. north america could break all ties with norman bankers and their generals and still ‘thrive’ as we have all we need to be isolated and still ‘thrive’. life under the dutch slave readers is not ‘thriving’, by any stretch of the imagination.
if russia’s resolution was unacceptable, why didn’t the us put forth an alternative?
