Houthis Say They Struck Vessel That Ignored Warnings In Red Sea

On November 19, the Houthis (Ansar Allah) in Yemen claimed responsibility for two recent attacks that targeted the Panama-flagged bulk carrier Anadolu S in the Red Sea.

The vessel was targeted with a number of “suitable” ballistic and anti-ship missiles, Houthi military spokesman Brigade General Yahya Sarea said in a statement, noting that the vessel was “accurately” hit.

“The ship was targeted because it did not respond to warnings issued by the naval forces and because the company that owns it violated the decision to ban entry to the ports of occupied Palestine,” the spokesman said.

“The Yemeni Armed Forces affirm that they will continue to impose a naval blockade on the Israeli enemy … and will continue to target the Israeli enemy with missiles and drones … these operations will not stop until the aggression and the blockade on the Gaza Strip as well as the aggression on Lebanon are over,” he added.

The Joint Maritime Information Center, a multinational task force overseen by the United States Navy, said that the Anadolu S was first contacted over VHF radio by someone claiming to be authorities in Yemen who ordered the ship to turn around.

“The vessel did not comply with the order and continued its transit,” the center said.

The ship’s captain later saw that “a missile splashed in close proximity to the vessel” as it traveled in the southern Red Sea near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait connecting to the Gulf of Aden in the first attack late on November 17, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), a detachment of the Royal Navy, said in an alert.

The attack took place some 26 nautical miles to the west of the Yemeni port city of Mocha, which is controlled by the Houthis.

Another attack some 60 nautical miles southeast of the Yemeni port city of Aden on November 18 similarly saw a missile splashdown close to the vessel, the UKMTO added.

Since November, the Houthis, who are backed by Iran, have attacked dozens of vessels affiliated with Israel or owned by the U.S. and the UK in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The group also launched dozens of drones and missiles at Israel and shot down at least 12 American-made combat drones over Yemen and nearby waters.

The U.S. and the UK have carried out hundreds of strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen since January. Israel also launched two waves of strikes against civilian infrastructure in al-Hodeidah in July and September. However, the group remains undeterred.

come on it is b*llshit. you can read it up yourself whereever you want. medium (!)-range missiles start at a range of 800 km !!! long-range missiles start at best from 2500 km up to 5500 km and above (then intercontinental). but atacms have max. range of 300 km. even taurus – which are not even sent to ukraine (!), they have a range of only slightly over 500 km. they are both short_range missiles !!! so it is pur nonsense to call them “longrange missiles”.
