The Houthis (Ansar Allah) in Yemen launched three attacks against Israel in less than 24 hours, including two missile strikes late on January 13 and early on January 14.

In separate statements, the Iran-backed group said that both strikes were carried out with Palestine 2 hypersonic missiles. A “vital target” in Tel Aviv and the headquarters of the Israeli Defense Ministry in the same city were hit, the group claimed.

From its side, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said that it successfully intercepted the first missile around 6:30 p.m. local time. The missile triggered sirens in numerous communities in the West Bank, Jordan Valley, Afula area and near Beit Shean due to fears of falling shrapnel.

The second missile was launched shortly after 3 a.m., triggering sirens throughout the entirety of central Israel. The IDF said it made several attempts to intercept the second missile and believed that it was successful, but it didn’t go as to say so with certainty.

Israel’s Magen David Adom said that it did not receive reports of anyone directly injured by the night’s second Houthi missile launch or by falling fragments from Israeli interceptors. However, 11 people were wounded while running to shelters and four more were treated for panic attacks, according to the ambulance service.

The Houthis also announced in their first statement that a “vital target” in Tel Aviv was targeted with four suicide drones. There was no comment from the IDF on this. In addition, there were no reports of drone interceptions or impacts by Hebrew media.

The group said that its attacks were carried out “in support for the oppression of the Palestinian people and their mujahideen, and in response to the massacres … in Gaza.”

According to the IDF, the Houthis have launched some 40 ballistic missiles at Israel since the outbreak of the war in the Strip on October 7 of 2023. The group also targeted dozens of Israel-linked merchant vessels, and clashed with the United States Navy near Yemen’s waters and shot down over a dozen American combat drones.

The U.S., United Kingdom and Israel have launched hundreds of strikes against the Houthis over the past year, with the IDF targeting mainly civilian infrastructure in areas controlled by the group in Yemen.

Most recently, on January 10, over 20 Israeli warplanes participated in strikes, dropping some 50 munitions on three main targets: the Hodeidah and Ras Isa ports on Yemen’s western coast, and the Hezyaz power plant near the capital Sanaa. Despite the heavy bombardment, the Houthis remains undeterred.

why is it still called iran backed. it should be clear by now that the huthis are the only left who fight isreal. the others were either defeated, ran away or were traitors who just dragged the others into a war they themselves were never actually fighting.
