The Houthis (Ansar Allah) launched another missile at Israel on March 24 afternoon, amid continuous United States strikes on Yemen.
Sirens went off in Tel Aviv, Rishon Lezion, Rehovot and the outskirts of Jerusalem as a result of the attack, with the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) announcing later that the missile was interpreted by its air defenses.
Several pieces of shrapnel from the missile continued to fall after the interception, reaching Israel and landing in the city of Beit Shemesh outside Jerusalem. However, No casualties or major damage were reported as a result of the shrapnel impacts.
The missile attack was the sixth to be launched by the Houthis since Israel renewed its offensive against the Hamas Movement in the Gaza Strip last week. So far, all the missiles launched from Yemen have been intercepted, according to the IDF.
In a statement claiming responsibility for the attack, Houthi military spokesman, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, said that the group launched not one, but two ballistic missiles, a Zulfiqar and a Palestine-2, at Ben Gurion Airport “In support of the Palestinian people and their valiant resistance.”
The spokesman announced in the same statement that the Houthis targeted tha aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman and other warships of the United States Navy in the Red Sea with ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones in response to “American aggression against Yemen.”
“The engagement lasted for several hours, during which an air attack that the enemy was preparing to launch against our country was foiled,” he said.
The U.S. military resumed strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen on March 15 on orders from President Donald Trump, who said that the large-scale operation was a response to the group’s renewed attacks on shipping.
The strikes continued into March 24, with the Houthis saying an attack on the capital, Sanaa, killed at least one person and wounded more than a dozen others.
The SABA news agency, which is run by the Houthis, reported, citing health officials, that a U.S. strike on a residential neighborhood in western Sanaa killed one and injured 13, including three children. According to the Saudi-owned Al Hadath network, a senior Houthi official was killed in the strike on the capital.
So far, the U.S. aerial campaign has claimed the lives of some 54 people, including commanders of the Houthis and civilians. Despite taking the losses, the Iran-backed group remained undeterred as evident by its recent attacks.
