The Houthis (Ansar Allah) in Yemen continue to launch attacks against Israel in support of the Palestinian Gaza Strip, despite growing pressure from the United States.
Late on January 5, a missile attack targeted Israel. The Houthis claimed responsibility for the attack the next day, claiming to have targeted the Orot Rabin power plant near the town of Hadera with a Palestine 2 hypersonic ballistic missile.
The Iran-backed group claimed that “the operation successfully achieved its objectives,” without providing any additional details.
The attack marked the deepest claimed strike in Israel by the Houthis. Previous attacks by the Houthis have targeted the city of Tel Aviv area and southern Israel.
The Israeli Defense Forces said that the missile was successfully intercepted before crossing the country’s borders. There were no reports of impacts in Israel.
Also on January 6, Yemeni media reported a series of “American-British strikes” on Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen.
According to the reports, three rounds of strikes were carried out in Saada, a city in Yemen’s mountainous northwest controlled by the Houthi rebel group. There was no confirmation from the U.S. or British militaries.
Later on the same day, the Houthis said that they targeted the American aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman in the Red Sea and struck central and southern Israel with missiles and drones.
“Our forces conducted a special operation targeting the US aircraft carrier USS Harry Truman with two cruise missiles and four drones in the northern Red Sea as the U.S. enemy was preparing to launch a major aerial attack on our country,” Houthi military spokesman Brigadier General Yahya Saree said in a statement.

In the same statement, the spokesman said that the group attacked a “military target” in the Tel Aviv area with two drones and a “vital target” near the town of Ashkelon, as well as another target near Tel Aviv.
In response, the IDF said that it was unaware of any drones reaching Israel from Yemen today, and there have been no reports of impacts.
Since November of 2023, the Houthis have attacked dozens of vessels affiliated with Israel or owned by the United States and the United Kingdom in the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea in response to the Israeli war on Gaza.
The group also launched dozens of drones and missiles at Israel and shot down at least 13 American-made combat drones over Yemen and nearby waters.
The U.S. and the UK have carried out hundreds of strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen since January. Israel also launched multiple waves of strikes against civilian infrastructure Houthi-controlled areas over the last few months. However, the aerial campaign failed to deter the Houthis or degrade their capabilities.
