The Houthis’ Interior Ministry announced late on September 11 that the person responsible for the assassination of the younger brother of Abdel-Malek al-Houthi, leader of Yemeni group, was eliminated in a special operation.

“The security services carried out a successful, special intelligence and security operation deep inside the aggression-held areas in the city of Marib on Tuesday, 10 September 2019, during which they managed to eradicate the so-called Muhammad Ali Qaid Dhawi,” an offical statement by the ministry reads.

According to the statement, a thorough investigation determined that Dhawi was the assailant who murdered Ibrahim Badreddin al-Houthi and his companion Mohammed Hussein Qassim al-Bader in August.

The Houthis had held the Saudi-led coalition responsible for the assassination of Ibrahim al-Houthi. This accusation was allegedly confirmed by the Interior Ministry’s investigation.

“The security services confirm that their investigations and the accurate information they found have proved that the so-called Dhawi, who was killed in this special operation, was linked to the intelligence of the Saudi enemy, which the investigations revealed that it was the main side behind the assassination of the martyrs Ibrahim Badreddin al-Houthi and his companion,” the ministry said in its statement.

According to Yemeni sources, Ibrahim al-Houthi played a role in the Houthis’ 2015 Sanaa attack, which provoked the Saudi-led intervention.

The Saudi-led coalition denied responsibility for the assassination, claiming that Ibrahim al-Houthi was killed as a result of an internal conflict.
