Houthis Announce Attacks On Three Israel-Linked Ships In Gulf Of Aden, Indian Ocean

The Houthis (Ansar Allah) announced on May 9 that they had attacked three Israel-affiliated merchant ships in support of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and as a response to recent American and British strikes on Yemen.

Two of the ships, the MSC Diego and MSC Gina, were targeted in the Gulf of Aden using ballistic missiles and drones, the Houthis’ military spokesman, Brigade General Yahya Saree said in a statement, adding that the third ship, MSC Vittoria, was targeted twice while sailing in the Indian Ocean and later in the Arabian Sea.

“The Yemeni Armed Forces are following the developments of the situation in the Gaza Strip and will not hesitate to escalate their military operations in support for the oppression of the Palestinian people, as stated in their previous statements,” the spokesman warned.

Brig. Gen. Saree also stressed that the Houthis will “continue to prevent Israeli navigation and shipping to the ports of occupied Palestine in the declared area of operations until the siege is lifted and the aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip is stopped.”

The Joint Maritime Information Center, a United States-led coalition of nations operating in the Middle East, said that the attacks on the Panama-flagged MSC Diego and MSC Gina took place on May 7.

“Neither were hit and all crew on board are safe,” the center said. “The vessels were last reported proceeding to the next port of call.”

The center added that the ships, which are operating for the Geneva-based Mediterranean Shipping Company, were “likely targeted due to perceived Israeli affiliation.”

There were no reports of any attacks on MSC Vittoria by the center or any other maritime agency operating in the Middle East.

Since last November, the Houthis have carried out more than 150 attacks against vessels affiliated with Israel or owned by the U.S. and the United Kingdom in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean in response to the Israeli war on Gaza.

In addition, the group launched more than 110 drone and missile attacks against the southernmost Israeli city of Eilat and shot down three U.S. combat drones over Yemen and nearby waters.

The U.S. and the UK have carried out more than 450 strikes against Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen since January in response to these attacks. At least 40 people were killed and 35 others were wounded in the strikes. Nevertheless, the group remains undeterred.

the brave houthis have already shot down more yankee drones than moscow over the black sea.
which has much fewer resources.
moscow should learn from them, and destroy that rq that loves taking pictures of crimea.
