On February 3, Houthi snipers killed 7 soldiers of the Saudi Army in several separate attacks along the Yemeni-Saudi border, south of the Saudi provinces of Jizan and Najran, according to the Houthis media wing.
The report claimed that more than 4 Yemeni fighters, loyal to the Saudi-backed Yemeni president Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, were killed by Houthi snipers in northern Yemen.
In the last few months, Houthi snipers increased their activity along the border with Saudi Arabia and managed to kill dozens of Saudi soldiers and pro-Hadi fighters. The Houthis armed their snipers with a variety of locally modified heavy sniper rifles and western-made sniper rifles that are usually captured from the Saudi Army.
The Saudi-led coalition stepped up its aerial campaign against the Houthis in northern and western Yemen, according to the UAE-based al-Arabiya TV. The coalition’s warplanes conducted over 12 airstrikes targeting several convoys and vehicles of the Houthis in the northern province of Saada on February 3.
Moreover, Saudi warplanes destroyed 25 Houthi positions in the northwestern province of Hajjah and 8 vehicles and positions of the Houthis along the Yemeni western coast, according to al-Arabiya.
These intese airstrikes may incidcate that the Saudi-led coalition is planning to expand it operations in northern and western Yemen in the near future.
