Houthi Forces Missile Reportedly Hit Saudi-led Coalition Warplane In Yemen (Video)

A screenshot from the video

On Thursday, Houthi forces and their allies from the Yemeni Army announced that they managed to hit an F-16 fighter over the Yemeni capital of Sana’a.

The fighter is believed to be from the UAE Air Force or the Moroccan Air Force as they are a part of the Saudi-led alliance and they operate F-16 fighter jets. According to Yemeni Military Media, it took the missile only 13 seconds to hit its target.

The Yemeni Millitary Media released a video showing the incident. Iit does not show the type of air defense system that was used. The video allows to see the launch of the missile towards the fighter and its explosio. However, it is not clear if the missile had hit the fighter.

It seems that the used launcher is similar to that used in the S-75 Dvina system, which Houthi forces have the experience to use. They converted it into a ground-to-ground missile under the name “Qahir” previously, or it might be an S-125 or SA-6 missile on a DIY launcher.

On May 21, the Houthis claimed that they had managed to shot down a Saudi F-15 fighter jet with a ground-to-air missile. However, the video showed that the missile had exploded near the fighter. It could damage the warplane but did not down it.
