Hezbollah on April 15 released video footage showing its fighters shooting down yet another Hermes 450 combat drone of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) over southern Lebanon.
The Hermes 450 was targeted over the town of Aaichiyeh on March 30, according to the group. The footage shows Hezbollah fighters targeting the drone with what appears to be a man-portable air defense system (MANPADS) at nighttime.
The Hermes 450, which reportedly cost more than $2 million, is a medium-sized multi-payload drone designed by Israeli defense company Elbit.
The drone has an endurance of over 20 hours, with a primary mission of reconnaissance, surveillance, combat and communications relay. Payload options include electro-optical/infrared sensors, communications and electronic intelligence, synthetic-aperture radar/ground-moving target indication, electronic warfare, and hyperspectral sensors.
This was the third Hermes 450 to be downed by Hezbollah during the ongoing confrontation in Lebanon, which began more than a month ago following the American-Israeli war on Iran.
The two others shot down on March 16 and April 1 were also targeted with MANPADS, namely the Iranian-made Misagh-1 and the North Korean-made HG-7.
The Misagh-1 is believed to be a variant or reverse-engineered clone of the Chinese-made QW-1 MANPADS. The missile, which is guided by passive infrared homing, has an engagement range of 6 kilometers with a flight ceiling of up to 5 kilometers.
Not much is known about the HG-7 — also guided by passive infrared homing — but it is believed to be a copy of the Soviet Igla-1, which has a range of 5 kilometers and a flight ceiling of 3,5 kilometers.
Hezbollah’s air defenses may be limited to short range, but they are effective enough to restrict the operations of Israeli combat drones, and even attack helicopters.

i guess the isreali apartheid regime will have to fly their drones a little higher, which will cut down their time over the target as more time will be needed to achieve a higher altitude.
