Hezbollah has released videos showing recent drone attacks on the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF), amid a de-escalation in southern Lebanon.
The videos, released between June 16 and 22, shows fiber optic-guided first-person view (FPV) suicide quadcopters hitting three Merkava Mk 4M main battle tanks, a Namer armored personnel carriers (APC), an Achzarit APC, an M113 APC — likely converted into a ground drone —, a D9 armored bulldozer, a digger, an all-terrain vehicle, and a command post.
Many of the strikes took place to the north of the Litani River, which Israeli troops crossed last month in a bid to expand their ground control in southern Lebanon.
Last week, the IDF launched an offensive north of the river to capture the strategic Ali al-Taher, where a massive underground base of Hezbollah is located. The group, however, thwarted all advancing attempts, killing five Israeli troops, including a commanding officer.
The last 48 hours saw notable de-escalation in southern Lebanon, reportedly after pressure from the United States on Israel.
Moreover, there are reports of the IDF withdrawing from some of its positions north of Litani. The extent of the withdrawal is not fully clear, however.
Fiber optic-guided FPV suicide quadcopters, which are cheap and easy to manufacturer, have been a gamechanger for Hezbollah.
These drones made up for the supply routes Hezbollah lost in Syria, and turned what Israel planned to be a safe zone in southern Lebanon into a kill zone.
