Hezbollah’s military media on March 20 released video footage showing an attack on an armored column of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) that attempted to advance in southern Lebanon, the heart of the group.
The Israeli advance attempt took place a day earlier, at al-Faqani height to the north of the town of al-Taybeh, located less than two kilometers away from the Blue Line — a temporary line drawn by the United Nations that separates Israel and Lebanon.
Five unidentified vehicles of the IDF were involved in the nighttime advance attempt, according to the thermal footage released by Hezbollah. All five were struck by the group fighters, who likely used anti-tank guided missiles, with fire later erupting at several of the vehicles. Israeli troops withdrew on foot after the strikes.
Footage released earlier by Hezbollah showed an IDF Caterpillar D9 armored bulldozer getting blown up, possibly with an explosive device, inside al-Taybeh. It is very likely that the bulldozer was remotely controlled.
Hezbollah resumed military operations right after the start of the American-Israeli war on Iran, ending a ceasefire brokered by the United States more than 15 months earlier and promoting the IDF to launch a “targeted” ground operation in southern Lebanon.
In recent days, the group stepped up rocket and drone attacks in northern Israel, with its military media releasing several videos of such attacks.
Since the start of the confrontation with Hezbollah, the IDF has acknowledged losing two soldiers only. Many others were reportedly wounded, including the son of Israel’s right-wing Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, who is said to be in a serious condition.
The IDF, from its side, claimed on March 20 that it has killed over 570 Hezbollah fighters, including 220 members of the group’s elite Radwan Force, so far.
More than 2,000 Hezbollah targets in Lebanon have also been struck in the past three weeks, the military said in a statement, including 120 command centers, 100 weapon depots, and 130 missile launchers.
According to Lebanon’s health ministry, Israeli attacks have killed over 1,000 since the confrontation began, including more than 111 children.
While the IDF has so far succeeded in limiting its losses, it is yet to move forward towards achieving any of the objectives it put for its ongoing operation against Hezbollah. The group’s attacks appear to be increasing, despite daily ground operations by Israeli troops.
