The Military Media of Lebanon’s Hezbollah released on July 24 drone surveillance footage showing Ramat David Air Base in northern Israel.
The video was described as a “special episode” of the Military Media’s series “What The Hoopoe Brought Back”. The video series is intended to show how far Hezbollah drones have penetrated Israel airspace as tensions mount over Israel’s war on the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip and the clashes on Lebanon’s border with Israel.
Ramat David is located some 50 kilometers from Lebanon’s border. The footage provided a detailed look at the air base, including warplanes hangers, command building, maintenance facilities, air defenses as well as ammunition and fuel depots. Also in the eight-minute video, Hezbollah revealed the identity of the base commander. The group said that the footage were taken on July 23.
Responding to the release of the footage, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said that the “activity of the base was not harmed.”
“The video released by Hezbollah was filmed by an unmanned aerial vehicle for photography purposes only,” the military says in a statement.
The IDF added it had been operating against Hezbollah’s aerial forces, striking hundreds of sites belonging to the unit in Lebanon in recent months.
The clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border first broke out after the start of the war in Gaza last October, with Hezbollah and its allies carrying out regular attacks in support of the Hamas Movement and other Palestinian armed factions in the Strip.
Both Hezbollah and the IDF escalated their operations in recent weeks. The death toll on the Israeli side has reached 30. Meanwhile in Lebanon, more than 500 people have been killed.
