Hezbollah announced on July 19 that it had launched dozens of “Katyusha” rockets at the Israeli settlements of Abirim, Neve Ziv and Menot for the first time.
The attack was carried out in support of the Palestinian people and resistance in the Gaza Strip as well as in response to recent Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon, Hezbollah said in separate statements, warning that it will target additional settlements if the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) launched more strikes on civilians in southern Lebanon.
A day earlier, Israeli strikes killed eight people in southern Lebanon, including a senior commander of Hezbollah’s elite Rudwan Force.
In addition to the attack on Abirim, Neve Ziv and Menot, Hezbollah announced that it fired “Katyusha” rockets at artillery positions of the IDF in the area of Khirbet Marea.
The group also said that its fighters targeted the Ruwaisat al-Alam site with a new locally-made heavy rocket dubbed “Wabel,” launched a Burkan heavy improvised rocket at an IDF gathering near the Ramim barracks, shelled the Metula site with artillery and targeted buildings occupied by Israeli troops in the settlement of al-Manara with “suitable weapons”.
The IDF said that Hezbollah launched more than 65 rockets at northern Israel, with many being intercepted by Iron Dome air defense systems. No casualties were reported.
In response to the attacks, the IDF said that several targets of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon were hit, including a rocket launcher and weapons depots, in the towns of Ayta al-Shaab, Blida and Houla. Lebanese media didn’t report any casualties.
The clashes on the Lebanese-Israeli border first broke out after the start of the war in Gaza last October, with Hezbollah and its allies carrying out attacks in support of the Strip.
So far, the border clashes have resulted in 12 civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least 18 IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 500 people have been killed, including 354 fighters of Hezbollah and over 100 civilians.
