Two Israeli soldiers were lightly and moderately wounded late as a result of a Hezbollah drone attack that targeted the northern part of the occupied Syrian Golan Heights on July 20, according to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF).
Several suspected drones entered Golan airspace in the attack and interceptor missiles were launched at them, the IDF said in a statement, adding that the drones were not intercepted and struck the Heights, leading to the injury of the two soldiers.
Hezbollah said that its launched a “squadron” of suicide drones at IDF artillery positions in the area of Zaoura, targeting troops housing and Iron Dome air defense systems there.
The attack was carried out in support of the Palestinian people and resistance in the Gaza Strip and as a response to recent Israeli strikes on southern Lebanon, the group noted in its statement.
Earlier in the day, Hezbollah fired rockets at the settlement of Dafna and shelled the sites of al-Manara and Zabdin. The al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas Movement, also said that its branch in Lebanon fired rockets at the headquarters of the IDF’s 300th Brigade in the Western Galil.
In response to these attacks, the IDF said that it struck two depots of Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. The sites were used to store rockets and other weapons. The strikes caused multiple large blasts. However, there were no reports of casualties.
Since the outbreak of the Israeli war on Gaza last October, Hezbollah and its allies began launching near-daily attacks against the IDF in support of Hamas and other Palestinian armed factions in the Strip.
So far, the border clashes have resulted in 12 civilian deaths on the Israeli side, as well as the deaths of at least 18 IDF soldiers and reservists. On the Lebanese side, more than 500 people have been killed, including 354 fighters of Hezbollah and over 100 civilians.
