Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) executed ten ISIS members on March 2 in response to the recent suicide bombing in the northern city of Idlib. The execution was reportedly carried out in front of the Fusion restaurant, where the attack took place.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), eight people were killed in the bombing, including six foreign fighters of HTS. Dozens of other civilians and militants were reportedly injured.
“We thought that ISIS will focus its efforts on freeing its captives and evacuating its women from the hands of the Syrian Democratic Forces [SDF], but we were surprised that it focused on striking the liberated areas and targeting the Mujahedeen in Idlib,” Anas al-Shami, a senior security commander in HTS, told the group’s news network Iba’a.
Al-Shami went on to warn ISIS members in the HTS-held areas that they are placing their lives and the lives of their families on the line by planning such attacks. The commander described the execution as a “fair punishment.”
Last January, HTS executed twelve members of ISIS in response to a similar attack that killed 15 people south of Idlib. However, this move only encouraged the remaining terrorist group fighters to step up their attacks.
