The Palestinian Hamas Movement announced on August 6 that it had chosen Yahya Sinwar, its top official in the Gaza Strip, as the new overall leader of its political bureau.
Sinwar has served as the group’s leader inside Gaza since 2017. He is seen by Israel as the mastermind behind the October 7 Hamas-led surprise attack inside Israeli territory, in which more than 1,100 people were killed and more than 200 others taken captive.
The selection of Sinwar as Hamas new leader follows Ismail Haniyeh’s assassination in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on July 31.
“The Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas announces the selection of Commander Yahya Sinwar as the head of the political bureau of the movement, succeeding the martyr Commander Ismail Haniyeh, may [God] have mercy on him,” Hamas said in a brief statement.
The appointment of Sinwar as the new leader of Hamas comes at a moment of soaring tensions in the Middle East, as Iran and its allies threaten retaliation for the killing of Haniyeh, which they blame on Israel. Israel has not claimed responsibility on the official level.
Hamas General Shura Council reportedly unanimously chose Sinwar as the group’s new leader, in what appears to be a response to the assassination of Haniyeh.
The war waged by Israel against Gaza after the October 7 attack has so far killed nearly 40,000 Palestinians, thousands of them women and children, displaced almost all of the Strip’s 2.3 million population.
Lebanon’s Hezbollah welcomed Sinwar’s appointment late on August 6, calling it a strong message to Israel and the United States, and showing that Hamas is united in its decision-making.
“Selecting the brother Yahya Sinwar from the heart of the besieged Gaza Strip – who is present the frontlines with resistance fighters and between the children of his people, under the rubble, blockade, killings and starvation – reasserts that the goals the enemy is seeking by killing leaders have failed,” the group said in a statement.
The Houthis (Ansar Allah) in Yemen also welcomed the appointment of Sinwar as Hamas new leader on August 6, wishing him success.
Overall, Sinwar’s appointment was a major blow to Israel, who consider him to be one of Hamas main hardliners. Israel’s attempt to intimidate the group, its leadership and allies by assassinating Haniyeh has clearly backfired and things could get worse with Iran’s upcoming retaliation.

i wouldn’t be surprised if the idea of october 7 attacks was plotted by mossad agents. it was such dumb idea with such devastative effect on palestine that only pearl harbor and 11 september can beat it. but as you can see, people are so naive and dumb that they are repeating old mistakes over and over again.
agreed. also the propaganda put out by western regimes/israel on that was reminiscent of what they said about iraq/saddam and soldiers stomping on babies in incubators. getting stupid people and propagandist to dehumanize their opponent. yet majority of people still believe known and documented liars for some reason.
there are video demonstrating many anomalies with the footage supplied by israel. specifically to do with cloud cover and making a timeline of the videos and locations. obviously, the footage that israel peddles is a lie recorded on another day. if sinwar actually took hostages, it was probably to bring respite to people being tortured in israeli dungeons. sometimes, the suffering inflicted on some individuals is such that it demands the sacrifice of others to stop it.
bad mind–gaza destroyed
gaza destroyed by the genocidal maniacs, which is further proof those genocidal maniacs need to be fought and stopped. can’t blame those fighting the murderers for the murders they commit.
as long as he’s prepared to drive the jews into the med with no hesitancy, it’s good. the jews don’t deserve to be part of mankind and maybe hamas and hezbollah supported by iran will be the ones that take care of the issue – no future for the jews, anywhere. from the river tonthe sea!,
this is what happens when you’re used to pushing around children (literally), blackmailed child rapists, and carefully selected cowards. one day you go too far and find out some goy are more like rhinos and just want to pulverize you into the ground and grind your entrails around in it.
yet it was sinwar who gave up ismail, al because he wanted more money.
what a load of hasbara bollocks. what money? how is that related? nevermind having any logic in your bs, only twisted zionazi minds can gobble that shite
you have to hand it the zio sadist psychos, if there were gold medals for lying they would have a chestful of them.
1,100 were not killed in the al aqsa flood operation. the zio regime itself supplied the casualty figures for the operation. 320 zio troops and 59 zio paramilitary police were killed, along with 318 settlers. total 697. most of the settlers were killed by indiscriminate fire from zio heavy weapons, tanks, artillery, helicopters. the zio tik tok army was panicking, undisciplined and unprofessional and just slaughtered their own people.
killed by idf following their “hannibal” directive.
so the guy that gave the israelis the chance to kill all palestinians will lead them. im sure that will help the palestinian cause. the right call would be to pretend that hamas is beheaded and some other organisation took over who had nothing to do with the attack that backfired. then to beg the muslim world to help them against the slaughter. send some zelinskys to the muslim world to collect money for the children which you can then use to rebuild hamas in egypt or lebanon.
the torture going on in israeli dungeons, and the other tortures of children which where committed elsewhere by the same troupe, are so heinous that the entire planet could be righteously blown up into a new asteroid belt in order to stop it. i mean every word. judgement justly falls on the ones who are silent and unmoving in the face of such of horrors. i mean every word.
neither the jews nor the muslims will ever care for one christian life. this is between them. someone should have just evacuated the christians from gaza to europe.
was this click-bait article? so who is behind haniyah killing?
sinwar will end up like deif. a sintered rotten dead filthy rat in the tunnels. also a dead man walking like his good old friend haniyeh. bobo.
