Greece has agreed to a United States proposal to transfer or sell its Soviet-made weapons to Ukraine in exchange for an assistance package amounting to $200 million, Kathimerini reported on January 28.
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has already given instructions regarding the transfer of systems and equipment that are not being used by the Hellenic Army to Ukraine, according to the Greek newspaper.
Before this, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken sent a letter to Mitsotakis proposing to transfer or sell the weapons in exchange for assistance from Washington to the tune of $200 million.
“We continue to be interested in the defense capabilities that Greece might transfer or sell to Ukraine. If these are of interest to Ukraine and pending an evaluation by the US government of their condition and value, we can explore the possibilities of potential additional funding for the Greek armed forces up to the amount of 200 million dollars,” the Blinken said in the letter.
In the letter, it is stated that as part of an expedited Excess Defence Articles (EDA) procedure, the Hellenic Army will receive two C-130H Hercules aircraft, ten engines for P-3B Orion aircraft, and 60 Bradley Fighting Vehicles. Athens will also have the opportunity to acquire up to 40 new F-35 aircraft, three Protector class patrol boats and a variety of vehicles.
The consideration of requests for the supply of four LCS [Littoral Combat Ships], deliveries of KC-135 Stratotanker aerial refueling aircraft and new C-130J Super Hercules aircraft is mentioned.
The Hellenic Army can transfer a wide array of Soviet-made weapons to Ukraine, including highly-capable air defenses systems.
The Hellenic Air Force (HAF) maintains a regiment made up of four S-300PMU-1 long-range air defense systems with eight fire units and 32 launchers on Crete. The S-300PMU-1 can fire the 48N6 family of missiles, which has a range of up to 195 kilometers. Greece received at least 175 missiles from Russia along with its systems.
In addition, HAF operates four Tor-M1 systems with 16 missile launchers, while the Hellenic Army operates 21 systems with 84 launchers. The Tor-M1 has a range of 12 kilometers. The Hellenic Army also operates 39 Osa-AKM systems with at least 120 launchers. The system has a range of 15 kilometers.
Greece supplied Ukraine with loads of weapons, including dozens of infantry fighting vehicles and hundreds of anti-tank rockets, after the the start of the Russian special military operation. The decision to provide more advanced weapons to the Kiev regime, specifically ones which were originally supplied by Moscow, will further deteriorate relations with Moscow. However, it will not likely change much on the battlefield.
greece was always a us lackey and bootlic-ker
i am a faggot sodomite. i love to be fucked and cum-dumped in the third eye.
that is why the yankees tricked the solvability of greece to enter the eu. so they are a pupped for the yankees. russia will target them, you will see.
why would russia target them? maybe sink their oil tankers if they get frisky but the country? what for?
greece was based under the colonels regime.
unification with cyprus should have been their objective as well the deturkification of the whole island. turks are geno cockroaches that deserve to be deleted from anatolia. what they did to the pontic greeks ans smyrna has to be avanged. make anatolia greek and armenia again
greece just takes the oppertunity these soviet era systems are obsolete for greece its defence purposes. if greece gets a good deal out of it in terms of cash and modern anti air defences as replacements its not that bad at all of a deal for them.
greece its main opponent is turkey and what greece needs is aa defences that are capable of shooting down f16s en turkish drones.
what can you expect from the greek μαλακάς nice hand job did you get your φακελάκι. it’s all greek to me
the greek government must be readining my posts lol 😄😆😄 gooo 🇷🇺🇷🇺🇷🇺 no φακελάκι for you
that’ll help ukraine. more old clunkers. though the age of their servicemen, they will think its modern gear.
sa nu te increzi in darurile grecilor
greek leaders picking the wrong side for toilet paper dollars, the idiots. when the ukraine war is over, russia will loom over europe as a colossus in all sectors, so best not to be on their revenge list. usa will be weak and far away.
i’m half greek and ashamed of their disgusting government
i’m part greek from an ancient greek colony across the adriatic or so my genes tell me and i too, am ashamed of their government’s eu lackey mentality.
usa will be 45 trillion in debt by then, sending dear john letters to all their creditors and asking greece if it could borrow a few bucks.
“greece expects to receive a draft letter of acceptance next week from the united states of its request to buy f-35 fighter jets, two greek sources with knowledge of the matter told reuters on friday.” – jan 26
i said this before, clown turkey said they would never allow sweden into nato, if* they don’t get their f-16… greece clowns said they wouldn’t give ukraine their s-300 systems – but now we know why they did.
oh and remember? the video of erdogan saying, that he will not allow sweden to join unless they stop the burning of the holy books as well?
turkey use daesh… turkey also still trading with israel, the fuking evil apes dare to say “oh those also help the palestinians” oh really cunts, care to explain how make idf uniforms helps palestinians? your fuking words as good of zionists.
both these losers are in nato. explains everything.
yeah i would like to know how russia see these events.
eh, turkey will eventually join brics. the day it finally mans up and says its tired of this 2nd class citizen bullshit with europe and the eu.
greece had better hope they are not involved in a conflict. they are ditching their most reliable and effective weapons for near obsolete junk. mitsotakus is a fool. they should look at turkey…have they sold off their s-400s? no, and they aren’t likely to either. ditching the f35cf to keep their s400s was a good move.
a greasy colony sleazy like us
s-300pmu-1 is better and more modern than what ukraine currently has and operators needs to be trained since it’s much more advanced then the older ones ukraine have used.
s-300pmu-1 a bunch of tor-m1 and osa-akm all with ammunition would be a significant boost of ukraine’s air defense capabilities but still in this conflict it wont change any outcome.
it looks like greece will loose a lot of defensive capabilities and the founding received in the deal isn’t even close to what greece will give up.
no one will attack greece. all they got is feta cheese olive oil and goats!
whoever attacks greece will take over their debt. who in their right mind would swallow that poison pill?
shameful and deplorable
it is shameful whe my ass is not fucked by russians.
buddy you are getting fuked by your ego, lmfao.
spoken like an honorable greek
shame on greece’s government. i doubt that the people of greece want this to happen. greece has enough problems of its own without joining a pointless bloody war.
greece is setting themselves up for doom just like armenia did.
pissing of potential allys if the us ever pull out of europe for
whatever reason (taiwan war, isolationist president, etc).
the turks are sure eagerly waiting to strike just like they
did at karabakh with azerbeydshan last summer.
shame for an ancient nation like greece to be degraded to the level of an old worthless whore who gets used by her fat anglo-american master any way he wants.
this weaponry is still very effective. the greek gov’t are giving up their effective russian tech for us and nato rubbish, as seen on tv. that’s not so much of a defence strategy.
now i understand why people joke with ‘be careful, there’s a greek behind you’ when taking a piss at the urinal.
they’re never to be trusted.
