Syrian government forces have conducted a successful airlanding operation behind ISIS defense lines on the eastern bank of the Euphrates, in the province of Deir Ezzor, according to reports circulating online.

According to Michael Horowitz, government troops were airdropped on the Conco Gas Plant north of Khusham village where clashes between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and ISIS was ongoing.

Horowitz is Director of Intelligence at Prime Source (an Israeli-based political risk consultancy). Following Horowitz, few other sources repeated the claim.

If reports are confirmed, this will be another blow to ISIS terrorists on the eastern bank as well as to the US-led coalition and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) that seek to expand their influence further in the eastern direction, towards the border with Iraq.

The previous successful airlanding operation was conducted by government forces at the administrative border between Homs and Raqqah provinces in August when the SAA Tiger Forces assisted by the Russian Special Operations Forces propelled the SAA advance in central Syria.

SF will update this post as soon as more info appears.

UPDATE [13:54 CEST]: A founder of a well-known pro-government blog AlMasdarNews, Leith Fadel, claims the airdrop was made by the US military.
