On September 25, the Syrian army, the National Defense Forces and Liwaa Al-Quds were pushed to retreat from the recently captured Handarat Refugee Camp in northern Aleppo due to heavy counter-attacks of Jabhat Fatah al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra) and its allies in the area. However, the Syrian military decided to continue attempts to take control of this strategic site.
Last night, fresh reinforcements (reportedly units of the Syrian army’s Republican Guard) arrived in the area in order to strengthen the forces involved in the operation. The pro-government forces are reportedly preparing to re-launch the advance of Handarat from the directions of Tal Madafah and Madajen.
These battles often ebb and flow with the situation remaining undecided for
quite sometime. The final outcome may not be clear yet but I would
expect the SAA to prevail.
