Forces loyal to the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) claimed on September 26 that unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs) of the UAE Air Force (UAEAF) had carried out a series of airstrikes on a key airport near the country’s capital, Tripoli.
“UAE drones, supporting war criminal rebel Haftar, targeted Mitiga International Airport, earlier,” a press release by a pro-GNA operations room reads.
Photos of the strikes show large clouds of black smoke and dust raising from several parts of the airport, which was put out of service on September 2.
The UAEF is known to be active over Libya, operating from the al-Khadim airbase in the western part of the country. However, the Libyan National Army (LNA) claimed responsibility for the recent airstrikes on the Mitiga airport.
In an official statement, the army’s media center claimed that at least two Turkish UCAVs were destroyed inside the airport.
The attack on the Mitiga airport shows how the war in Libya has turned into a conflict between several regional powers, mainly Turkey and the UAE.
So who’s with who here? Lesser Evil?
Turkey supports the Muslim Brotherhood, (GNA), and the UAE supports Haftar (LNA)
Haftar holds most of the country and oil fields, is also supported by Egypt and stands the best chance of reuniting Libya. MB is an MI6 creation, used to divide and conquer
