GNA Forces Uncovered Wreckage Of Chinese-Made Combat Drone In Western Libya (Photos)

Forces of the Government of National Accord (GNA) have uncovered the wreckage of a Chinese-made Wing Loong II combat drone in western Libya.

On October 22, Clash Report, a Turkish outlet, shared photos of the wreckage which was found to the south of the town of al-Shwayrif. It’s still unclear when or how the drone crashed.

The UAE operated Wing Loong II drones from a number of air bases in eastern and central Libya to support the Libyan National Army (LNA) against Turkish-backed GNA Forces.

Clash Report claimed that the drone which crashed near al-Shwayrif was armed with air-to-air missiles. Wing Loong II drones can be armed with heat-seeking short-range missiles of this type. However, there is no solid evidence to back Clash Report’s claims.

Between April and June, at least five Wing Loong II drones crashed in different parts of Libya while providing support for LNA troops.

The situation in Libya is currently calm. The GNA and the LNA are engaged in constrictive talks. A political settlement appears to be possible for the first time in years.
