“Georgian miracle” in Ukraine

"Georgian miracle" in UkrainePetro Poroshenko, the president of Ukraine, has appointed former Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili to be a governor of Ukraine’s southern Odessa region in the end of the May. At this time Mr. Saakashvili wanted by his country’s prosecutors for embezzlement, abuse of power and politically-motivated attacks. A lot of western experts characterized him as a “Georgian miracle”.

The miracle indeed! He started a war in 2008 and lost control over the Abkhazia and South Ossetia. He tried to tackle corruption but now actively wanted by country’s prosecutors for spending more than 5 million dollars for own needs. Georgia tries to put Saakashvili on Interpol’s wanted list as well as extradite from Ukraine. He even tried to obtain a work visa to the US, but was refused. Nonetheless Petro Poroshenko considers his old friend from a university as the best choice.

It seems difficult for new ukrainian power to find worthy citizens for key positions. While Ukrainians kill each other in a brotherly war, other citizens of the US, Georgia, Lithuania, Israel work in the Ukraine’s government and control the country.

Waiting for the “miracle” Odessa organized a flash mob with neckties. As is known Saakashvili likes eating them. Hopefully he is full enough and ready to work hard.
