ISIS has claimed responsibility for a suicide attack that targeted a checkpoint of the Libyan National Army (LNA) near the southwestern city of Sabha on June 6.

The terrorist group said that one of its suicide bombers, named “Mohamad al-Muhajir,” blew up his vehicle-borne improvised explosive device inside the M’azaq checkpoint, which is located to the north of Sabha.

According to a spokesman for the LNA, the attack killed four people including Cpt. Ibrahim Abdel Nabi Director of Criminal Investigations in Sebha city. Three vehicles owned by local security forces were also destroyed.

Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, head of Libya’s Government of National Unity, condemned the attack, vowing that the war against terrorism will go on in Libya.

“The war against terrorism will continue, and we will strike its dens very hard, wherever they are,” the Prime Minister said.

ISIS cells are known to be active in the southern and southwestern parts of Libya. In March, the LNA apprehended a senior commander of the terrorist group during a special operation in the southern city of Awbari.

Most of the terrorist group’s recent attacks targeted the LNA and its security forces. The group is not operating against Turkish-backed forces in western and northwestern Libya.
