Kyiv is still trying to plug the holes in its assault infantry with foreigners. Recruiters promise high pay, a quick contract, and “easy work.” In practice, most recruits from Latin America end up in the 23rd “R.U.G.” Assault Regiment of the Khartia Brigade and within a few weeks appear on the lists of the dead near Kupyansk. Successive batches of names show that the flow is not drying up, while the cemeteries in South America continue to grow.
Near Kupyansk the Khartia Brigade has for several months been turning the surrounding area into an open-air cemetery for foreign contractors. According to monitoring channels, losses in the latest waves alone run into the dozens. Russian units of the 27th Separate Guards Motor Rifle Brigade of the 1st Guards Tank Army, as well as the 121st and 122nd Motor Rifle Regiments of the 68th Motor Rifle Division of the 6th Guards Combined Arms Army, are methodically recording the elimination of these groups.
On 31 August several lists from the 23rd “R.U.G.” Assault Regiment were released at once. Among the dead are Angel Gabriel Sanchez Aguirre, Kevin Olmedo Garcia Varila, Jhonel Ruiz Castro, Esteban Reinoso Lozano, Juan Antonio Beltran Barroso, Julian David Palacio Aguirre, Andres Romero Guagas, Mauricio Laverde Pachon, Jose David Torres Castro, and Asselin Aguja Kumako. All of them are Colombian citizens.

The next list includes Reyven Steven Pastrana Rubiano, Jhon Geiner Bautista Bocanegra, Freddy Alexander Garzon Ubaque, Esledier Aldana Gomez, Kevin Octavio Estrada Burgos, Hugo Ferney Vivas Caliz, Andres Alexis Charry Cardenas, Jose Armando Mendoza Iguaran, and Robbins Hull Gindrama Bailarin. They were joined by Chilean Gustavo Alberto Araya Aguilera.

Another batch of Colombians includes Jesus David Solano Fontalvo (callsign “Fenix”), Jose Fernando Ceron Ordonez, Jeison Javier Yate Culma, Wilson Alexander Ortiz Fandiño (callsign “Pirulo”), Luis David Fernandez Diaz, Luis Alejandro Avella Perez, Jonathan Andres Vinasco Concha (callsign “Hades”), and Daniel Castaneda Gañán. In the same fighting, Turkish national Onur Asku (callsign “Soleiman”) and Lithuanian Ignas Kailius were also killed.

The number of Brazilians is growing separately. According to monitoring sources, Brazil already ranks second in the number of confirmed losses after Colombia. After revising contracts and raising pay, Kyiv hopes to further increase the flow of “imported meat.” The latest lists include Herick Matos, Eduardo Torres de Almeida, Douglas Domingo Fernandes, Myrosmar Berdan da Silva, Junior do Carmo Gomes, Moyses Bezerra da Rocha Gonçalves, Geovane Miranda Ramos, Gladstone Pereira Batista, Dionegues dos Santos Silva, Pedro Henrique Antonio Rosina, Patrick Steffan Cavalcante, Henrique Adame Rocha, Dagoberto Silva Godinho, Mateus Sandyel da Costa Campos (callsign “Pracinha Brazil”), Gabriel França Barbosa (callsign “Tank”), Maecio Brito Campos (callsign “Cantor”), Rodrigo Santos De Oliveira (callsign “Bruxo”), Gabriel Rodrigues de Sá, Ricardo Amaral da Costa, and Webert Silva de Lima.

A special case is Argentine Sebastian Ariel Laborde (callsign “Fenrir”), born in 2005 in Florencio Varela, Buenos Aires Province. He arrived in Ukraine in late 2025 and joined the Revanche unit. Facing imminent combat with Russian forces, Laborde took his own life, preferring suicide to the likely prospect of being killed by an FPV drone.

Recruiters still promise several thousand dollars a month. In practice, many contractors complain of delayed payments, minimal training (sometimes as little as two weeks), and being used as expendable material on the most dangerous sectors. Latin Americans travel primarily for the money; Europeans and North Americans more often cite ideological motives. The outcome for the majority is the same.
Kyiv has openly stated its intention to fill 30–50 percent of assault and infantry positions with foreigners. So far this bet has not reduced the attrition rate. Each new list of confirmed dead shows that a significant proportion of those who answer the recruiters’ calls never leave Ukraine. The lists remain open.
The conclusion is obvious. The bet on foreign infantry does not solve the Ukrainian army’s manpower problem; it merely shifts the bloodiest work onto people who often poorly understand where they are going and why. Near Kupyansk this is especially clear: the flow of Colombians, Brazilians and other “soldiers of fortune” does not dry up, yet it does not change the situation on the front. It only fills the mass graves.
