A military aircraft of the US Air Force crashed in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. Five American servicemen were killed in the crash.
According to the US European Command (EUCOM), the accident took place during exercises on the evening of November 10. The aircraft reportedly crashed during refueling in the air.
Search and rescue operations began immediately after the crash. They involved US aircraft and ships that were operating in the area. EUCOM claimed that, according to preliminary reports, the crash did not occur due to any hostile actions.
On November 11, the EUCOM reported that exercises of carrier strike groups were held in the eastern Mediterranean in the last three days. The exercises involved the ship of the US Sixth Fleet (headquarters in Naples, Italy) Mount Whitney and two Italian frigates Virginio Fasan and Carlo Margottini.
