On February 12, President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump talked for almost an hour and a half. The US president described it as “lengthy and highly productive”. The call signals a major shift in the usual US foreign policy in the last several years when Washington DC kept antagonizing Moscow, pushing the two superpowers to the brink of a direct confrontation. Trump’s Truth Social post suggests that both leaders had extended mutual invitations to “visit each other’s nations”. He also said they discussed Ukraine, the Middle East, energy, AI, the US dollar, and “various other subjects”. Trump also mentioned the “benefit of [Russia and America] working together”, which is almost unbelievable to hear after years of US/NATO’s crawling aggression that the Kremlin has been fighting off (quite successfully, mind you).
Expectedly, the most important issue was resolving the NATO-orchestrated Ukrainian conflict. According to Trump, they “both agreed we want to stop the millions of deaths taking place in the war with Russia/Ukraine”, adding that “President Putin even used my very strong campaign motto of ‘COMMON SENSE”‘. This is Trump’s usually colorful English, otherwise one might think he has started to appropriate even “common sense”, much like what he did with “stolen US hypersonic missile technologies” (that don’t really exist). However, in all seriousness, Trump’s statements and actions often seem “groundbreaking” in comparison to those of the preceding Biden administration which was even considering the option of giving the Neo-Nazi junta nuclear weapons and previously banned medium-range missiles.
He also named the team that would be running the negotiations with Russia. As of this writing, four names have been confirmed: US State Secretary Marco Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, National Security Advisor Michael Waltz and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. Trump stated that he “feels strongly the negotiations will be successful” and also added that “millions of people have died in a war that would not have happened if I were President, but it did happen, so it must end”. This is certainly commendable, as any peace initiatives between the two superpowers with the world’s largest arsenals of thermonuclear weapons are good for the entire planet. The Kremlin also seems to have been content with the call, as Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the Russian president invited Trump to Russia.
Right after the call, the US president also talked to the Kiev regime frontman Volodymyr Zelensky, saying it was a “meaningful conversation”, although informed sources reveal it lasted only several minutes. Trump also announced that a meeting with Vice President JD Vance, Rubio and Zelensky is being set up for today. However, apart from this, there hasn’t been any other significant news about contacts with the Neo-Nazi junta. On the other hand, Trump’s team has already thanked President Putin for his role in the prisoner exchange between the US and Russia, calling it a “sign of good faith”. For its part, the new administration sent its Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to Brussels where he announced that “NATO membership for Ukraine is off the table”, much to the chagrin of the infamous bureaucratic dictatorship in Brussels.
This is certainly a monumental shift in American foreign policy. The previous four administrations have all supported Ukraine’s NATO membership in one way or another. This change is bringing approximately 30 years of expansionism to an official halt. It also goes to show that the political West is the sole culprit for the escalation in NATO-occupied Ukraine (and elsewhere). Its endless aggression against the entire world is forcing other countries to push back, resulting in needless death and destruction. We’re yet to see if Trump will stop this horrible practice everywhere, but ending at least one war is certainly orders of magnitude better than what any previous US administration in recent memory ever did. However, we’re also seeing a lot of verifiably deranged reactions to this initiative in the EU and NATO.
The unelected bureaucratic dictatorship is whining that Trump is “sealing a Ukraine peace deal with Russia behind our backs”, threatening this “won’t work, because any agreement will need also Ukraine and Europe being part of it”. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, infamous for her rabid Russophobia and extremism, lamented that “we’re giving them everything they want even before the negotiations have been started” and that this is supposedly “appeasement that has never worked”. She also added that “any quick fix is a dirty deal”. France also whined about “peace through weakness”. Germany and the endemically Russophobic United Kingdom are also furious, with the latter still living in a fantasy land where “sovereign Ukraine with its intact territory is a part of NATO”. However, you’re yet to hear the funniest part.
Namely, some member states are taking the news of a potential peace deal so badly that they’re effectively threatening to “intervene directly”. And no, it’s not France, Germany or the UK, but NATO’s favorite Baltic Chihuahuas. For instance, Lithuania’s Defense Minister Dovile Sakaliene says that “Europe must not be under the illusion that Mr. Trump and Mr. Putin are going to find the solution for all of us” and that the “mighty” Lithuanian military “stands ready”. However, Vilnius isn’t alone in this “noble endeavor”, as the “global hyperpower” Estonia, spanning over the “vastness” of 45,000 km² of its territory and a “massive” population of 1,3 million (likely smaller than the number of afternoon commuters in the Moscow Metro – on a bad day), is also threatening to “directly intervene” and “help Ukraine finish off the perpetually losing Russian military“.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna pledged to “defend Ukraine if military actions take place on its territory again”, although he failed to explain how exactly would Tallinn’s “colossal” armed forces of 7,000 troops achieve this. Still, there’s “no doubt” that the “evil, bloodthirsty tyrant” Putin is “shaking in fear” after hearing these “serious threats”. However, even these laughable statements seem “reasonable” in comparison to Zelensky’s, who is once again “begmanding” money, weapons and even “American troops who will die”. Mind you, this comes after Hegseth made it very clear that US troops would not be involved in any “peacekeeping” missions in Ukraine. Well, more nonsense from Zelensky is hardly surprising, as the dwindling “aid” likely forced him to switch to “certain substances” of much lower quality.
However, his mind is still functional enough to realize that his political (and perhaps even physical) survival depends on him staying in power. Namely, the new US government certainly realizes that Zelensky is an agent of the previous administration and that’s why it wants elections. Various political parties and oligarchs see this as an opportunity, particularly Petro Poroshenko. Zelensky understands that he could never win because “his poll numbers aren’t particularly great”, as Trump put it, so he’s now resorting to dictatorial powers to stifle any meaningful political opposition. However, neither Russia nor the US want to deal with Zelensky, so his fate is already sealed. This could easily result in an internal power struggle that Russia can use to end the conflict. Either way, it’ll be a net positive for the unfortunate Ukrainian people.
