Erdogan Vows To Wipe Out Kurdish From Manbij-Qamishli Corridor In Northern Syria

FSA members are looting the city of Afrin

Following a military defeat of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) from Turkish forces in the area of Afrin, President Recep Erdogan vows to continue military operations against the YPG and to wipe out the Kurdish force from the Manbij-Qamishli corridor in northern Syria.

“The military operation will go on until the terror corridor through Manbij, Ayn al-Arab, Tell Abyad, Ras al-Ayn, Qamishli has been wiped out,” Erdogan said speaking at the Bestepe Culture and Congress Center in the presidential complex in capital Ankara.

“We have eliminated most of the terror corridor in the region,” the president said adding that 3,622 so-called “terrorists” had been neutralized since the start of Operation Olive Branch in the Afrin area.

Erdogan went further saying that Turkish forces “can suddenly come over one night in Iraq’s Sinjar and eliminate PKK terrorists there.”

The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) is a Kurdish militant separatist organization operating in southern Turkey, northern Syria and northern Iraq. The PKK has been for a long time involved in a militancy against the Turkish government and de-facto seeks to establish an independent Kurdish state, which would include the territories of Turkey, Syria and Iraq.

Ankara describes the YPG as a branch of the PKK. The YPG is a core of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces. While some US public figures prefer to avoid this topic, the CIA openly supports Ankara’s claim.
