Turkey is determined to launch a military operation against Kurdish forces in northeast Syria regardless of the outcome of ongoing talks with the U.S, the country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on July 26.
“Whatever the outcome of safe zone talks with the United States, we will obliterate the east of the River Euphrates,” Erdogan said during a meeting with the provincial heads of his ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party in the Ankara headquarters, according to Ahval News.
The Turkish President added: “Those who behave like regional strongmen while trusting in the protection of foreign forces will either abase themselves or go to their graves.”
The Kurdish-dominated Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) control most of northeastern Syria with support from the US-led coalition. Thousands of U.S. troops are deployed in several bases within the region.
Turkey, which views the SDF as a threat to its national security, is currently engaged in talks with the U.S. on the fate of northeastern Syria. Washington wants to establish a safe-zone in the region that could address Ankara’s worries and solidify Kurdish forces control.
Turkey is apparently not pleased with the U.S. plans. Two days ago, Ankara’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Ankara is not satisfied with Washington’s proposals.
Erdogan’s threats indicate that Turkey and the U.S. are still away from any possible deal on northeastern Syria. Despite this, a Turkish military operation in the region remains highly unlikely due to the presence of U.S. troops.
Turkish rabid kurdophobia is showing clearly again. However, Turkey being kurdophoob is not a valid reason for the US to give in to these fools.
If the kurds would reconcile with the legitimate syrian government, it would solve the turkish problem?
You idiots havent thought of that yet?
Oh wait your too busy.sucking up to the saudis!
The same saudis that financed ISIS in the first place.
Im willing to hypothesize that saudi’s are paying you, right now.
The hypocricy is thick in this one.
Who can reconcile with a government that abondoned one to IS, had a two generation policy of kurdophobia and oppression of kurds. A government promising to go back to the good old days of discrimination and murder. Kurds demand basic rights as defined by UN. Minority rights, language rights, democratic rights, the right not to be discriminated against.
What is wrong with that?
F kurdistan as long as palestine is occupied
So now kurds are responsable for those fake refugees?
Wake up! The Syrians gave Kurds sanctuary from the Turks since the 1920s. Yes there was some discrimination but otherwise Kurds have had it good in Syria. Assad and co have actualyl made many concessions to them . Your statements are thus overblown and hold no water.
I would love to see what you think if one hundred years down the track the moslem rapefugees in holland demand to split up their haven and want independence and their own country.
Kurds are the poorest in Syria, least education, worst sanitary situation, worst economics, taking their citizenship, being discriminated against, no kurdish allowed and you call that some discrimination?
Maybe so, yet Assad has offered them many concessions even before 2011 and since the Russian entrance into the war. Kurds have always been ratbags and spoilers. Proven over and over again. They also were and are some of the worst headchoppers in ISIS and the first leader was a Kurd given haven in Norway.
I still haven’t heard you say the same for the Dutch giving the jihadi Moslem community concessions as has Assad. I am waiting.
Want to help disadvantaged people? Help the Arabs in Palestine, the native European groaning under rapefugees and the Euro and Anglophone wage slave under globalism/neoliberalism.
In a hundred years they will br dutch. Original languages will be gone. Is already visible that later generrations lose the lingo, often also the religion. Birth rates as low as the dutch. And they are dispersed. Or in a few city centers. So, no risk.
Kurds however, lived in Syria before the 12th century and some tribes settled in the then empty Cezire in the 18th centure, long before arabs, who are invaders themselves.
Wishful thinking on your part if you think most Kurds will assimilate in Holland. The default Moslem never assimilates and most Kurds are religious Moslems. I have no evidence saying that the Kurds of Holland are particularly both secular and Westernising.
I know well the history of the Kurds in Syria. In fact ,kurds are also invaders there as well and Arab tribes arrived in Syria in 600AD s.
If we have it your way ,then fine ,but I want to go back to the Greco-Canaanites who were there before the Arabs even arrived.ie Zenobia and Palmyra was my Golden Age.
Are you in the pay of either Assad or Erdogan? Seems likely.
May be. Why? Are you jealous?
Why is being in the pay of Assad a problem?
The question is the answer.
I don’t understand you.
That one asks why being paid by Assad is a problem is a problem in itself. Assad is responsable for mass murders in his prisons, by his secret police, by his barrel bombs, by inviting foreign soldiers in his lands, by attacking and killing demonstratoers etc etc. Not to mention he is a dictator.
Killing prisoners or rebels is not a crime under international law. America and Britain have done it many times in their history. He did not use barrel bombs and if he did ,so what! America and israel use illegal depleted uranium ,clusterbombs and white phosphorus and i dont see you crying.
Inviting foreign soldiers? So what ? Legitimate gov can ask foreign soldiers in too . Your sauds invited americans in as did WWII britain. Dictator? Who cares. America loves dictators and had one in most maghreb countries and installs them in south America and in afghanistan.
Sorry ,your argument holds no water.
You’re as retarded as ever. Barrel bombs…that’s as good as moderate terrorists. Don’t forget CW and WMDs as long as you’re making shit up. How’s that put up job your gov calls the MH17 investigation going? Found Putins passport on the ground yet?
and I suppose, well more than suppose, that erdogan has the kurds in mind and thus also the squatters. fact is that the disorganized states of A, is propping up the kurds to alleviate the situation in and around the illegal settlement in palestine, and he is right in doing that ’cause he ain’t going to get to the squatters (who he hates vehemently) unless he first puts the kurds to bed. but once there and once aligned with Iran and hezbollah and Iraq, the squatters are in for an existential wipe out so they better have their green cards ready.
Erdogan may claim to hate “the squatters”, which is necessary for local consumption, but the Kurdish are the real and close up existential threat to Turkey.
Actually the Kurds also threaten Iraq and Iran equally.
So the line up , US, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and UAE .
…….Verses………..Syria, Iraq, Iran and Lebanon
Qatar and Russia the wild cards.
kurds are maybe a threat against turkey with the backing of the dysfunctional states of A.this latter party will have to decide if it wants to lose the gatekeeper to the east and the key to the dardanelles or stick with the kurds. nato without turkey is a one-legged turkey with no access to the black sea and further east. and for some reason the inroads china is doing in the eurasian area is of severe importance for washington dc and it will have to be stopped. so expect a loss of face turn a round by washington that can’t afford to drop turkey from nato.
I am afraid you are right.
Both SDF=ISIS and allah wakbar Erdogan is same land grabbers in Syria.
that does not give you any right to invade and occupy syria
what US troops are being forced out? they are building a new base i heard
So what . Greece and Turkey fought one another in 1974 and hoth were NATO.
A spat between NATO members does not invoke article five…because they are both members.
Lieutenant Roger Captain when NATO members clashes it is regarded as family business and matters. That article 5 is only reserved for none NATO like Iraq,Libya Afghanistan, Yogoslawia, etcetera. But not for Russia, Pakistan, Iran,Venezuela, Cuba,China and India and Israel.
It is invoked only when a NATO member is attacked by a non-NATO member. But there are also other rules. If a NATO member attacks or invades another country that is non-NATO, they can not invoke article 5. By the same token should a NATO member attack another non NATO country, the attacked country can respond and not invoke the article. They can, however lie through their teeth and claim they were attacked first and that will invoke article 5.
Exactly thank you.
I dont know the details but i assume that conventions and laws mean something only when it benefits the anglozioyankers. It suited these last ones to have Turkey invade ,so threw Greece/Cyprus to the winds, just as the US threw Georgia,Turkey and Ukraine. I actually am happy about the last three states failing.
No we did not fought Greek. we chase them but they just run away
that would be very interesting
USA is busy settling down in Syria only serious war between USA and Iran will force USA out.Turkey is no match to France or Germany or USA. USA NATO only need Turkey because of its Incirlick base and Bosphorus strait to enter black sea.Turkey missile or big army is useless against USA.Thanks for your open truth about new base construction which serve as Syrian partitioning.
Unfortunately, yes…near Raqqah, Tabka? Personally, I wish the little pasha would get on with it. If it gets rid of the US and the Kurds or even causes them great pain, including Turkey…so much the better. Regardless, either would be easier to deal with afterwards. No telling how it would work out, could cause a break with Turkey or maybe a break wiith the Kurds. If the US dumps the Kurds, they might decide to ally with Syria and become Erdos worse nightmare. But, that would anger Israel, as they are backing the Kurds as well. If the US breaks with Turkey, all kinds of crazy shit could happen. Kiss Incirlik goodbye, all US MIC contracts will be gone, the US would have another issue to deal with (sanctioning Turkey), and they damn sure don’t want to have to attack Turkey. Of course, this all pre-supposes that this is not a dog and pony show….which it could be. Yes, Mildred, you do have a tit caught in the wringer, don’t you?
But of course it does! The world loved when Turkey went in and established ” safe zones” in Cyprus …and never left! **joke**
Cyprus Now much much saver than before 1974 ?
USA needs Turkey so dearly and try to avoid clashes and loosing it out Russia. Bosphorus interlink to black sea is important for Russia too.Just is Hormus strait closure will cause permanent economic disruptions to the whole world
Of course, Erdogan is not talking about his terrorists. Turkey is an invader in Syria and must get the hell out of there.
The US and Turkey are heading towards an unavoidable and inevitable confrontation, because the ALF [independent Kurds] are doing everything they can to make it totally unavoidable and inevitable.
That new US base near the Turkish border is well placed to stop a Turkish invasion from the north, is that a coincidence?
the best for all and sundry is that the kurds are herded back to be tenants in the borderlands of turkey, syria, iraq and iran – kurds have no tangible value for anyone and thus are well suited for tenancy in the borderlands. right now they are exploited by the dysfunctional states of A(rshloschs) for and on behalf of the squatters, who, just as the kurds, have no tangible value to anyone and can thus be disposed of with the same mercy they have shown the palestinians over the last 100 years, i.e. no mercy at all.
The Kurds are screwed for sure.
