Erdogan Says Extending State of Emergency Will Be Good for Turkey

Extending a state of emergency, imposed after a failed coup attempt in July, for another three months would be beneficial for Turkey, President Tayyip Erdogan believes.

“It would be in Turkey’s benefit to extend the state of emergency for three months,” Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a speech to a group of provincial administrators at the presidential palace in Ankara on September 29.

Erdogan noted the measure sped up Ankara’s fight against terrorism and emphasized that he believes Turks would support it. The statement was made a day after Turkey’s National Security Council recommended the extension of the emergency rule.

We recall Ankara announced in July it would suspend the European Convention on Human Rights during the ongoing state of emergency.
