Elections in Syria: key to political settlement in the country, according to Russia

Syrian President Bashar Al Assad

Bashar Al Assad claimed during a meeting with a Russian congressmen delegation in the Syrian capital that he doesn’t discard the possibility of anticipating parliamentary elections in his country and making constitutional amends to ensure political settlement in the Islamic Nation.

Assad also said that if Syrian citizens consider the idea of having presidential elections as well, he will accept people’s will trusting in their unconditional support.

Sergei Lavrov, Russian Foreign Affairs Minister, claimed that it’s absolutely crucial that Syria gets prepared to general elections to create a proper background for the foundation of political stability that would enhance the advance against extremist groups like ISIS and Jabhat Al Nusra, since Assad’s will to start talks with Syrian rebels like the ones of the Free Syrian Army if their commitment to fight terrorism is real.
