On February 11, Egyptian Army spokesman Colonel Tamer Rifai announced in an official statement that the Egyptian Air Force (EAF) had discovered and destroyed 66 positions and hideouts of ISIS cells in the Sinai Peninsula.
Moreover, the Egyptian Army destroyed 3 explosive depots, an IED workshop and a media center of ISIS during its military operation, according to Col. Rifai. 13 Vehicles and 31 motorcycles of the terrorist group were also destroyed by the Egyptian Army soldiers.
Col. Rifai revealed that 16 fighters of ISIS had been killed and 34 suspects had been arrested in the Sinai Peninsula by the Egyptian Army and security forces.
Summing up the statements released by the military, by February 12, government forces had killed 28 ISIS members, destroyed 20 vehicles and detained 92 ISIS members since the start of the opeartion. According to uncofnirmed reprots, 3 or 5 Egyptian service members had died in clashes with the terrorists.
The Egyptian Defense Ministry also revealed that one of the Egyptian Navy’s Mistral-class amphibious assault ship is currently taking part in the anti-ISIS operation and securing the northern coast of the peninsula.
The Egyptian Army launched a large military operation against ISIS cells in the Sinai Peninsula on February 9, after the terrorist group had increased its attacks there during the last three months.
They will no doubt wonder why they are not popular.
