Egypt Signed A Contract For 500 Russian T-90MS Battle Tanks

Egypt has signed a contract with Russia to license-build 500 T-90MS battle tanks, the Defense Blog reported on June 27.

Citing sources in the Russian defense industry, the Defense Blog reported that the contract was signed by the Egyptian Ministry of Defence and Military Production and the sole Russian state defense export agency Rosoboronexport.

Under the alleged contract, the Uralvagonzavod corporation will build a facility to assemble T-90MS tanks under license in Egypt.

The T-90MS is a significantly upgraded version of the T-90S. The battle tank is equipped with a 1,130 hp engine, a PNM Sosna-U gunner sight, a UDP T05BV-1 remote weapon station with a 7.62 mm machine gun, and a brand new navigation system with GLONASS.

The tank protection was improved with the addition of the new Relikt explosive reactive armour (ERA) that covers a large part of the chassis and turret.

If confirmed, the purchase of T-90MS battle tanks will significantly improve the offensive capabilities of the Egyptian Armed Forces. The contract will also allow Egypt to gain vast experience in the construction and maintenance of battle tanks.

Israel is gonna hate this. But more importantly, that T90MS looks like it can kill Abrams for breakfast, I mean look at it.

Lone Ranger

It can :)

Fog of War

” Israel is gonna hate this. ”
Why would they, do you actually believe Egypt will stand up to them or ZioAmerica ?

Ray " Uncle Sam"

yes they go shopping for it! S 400 with latest missiles not like syria! Su fighter jets! Tanks etc…. they know war is around the corner!

Wizzy

Oh they do not trust each other. Egypt is one president away from turning ”hostile” against the Zionists and you see their military is diversified with equipment from both Washington and Moscow. They cannot kill all the Morsis of this world, another one is bound to come around soon

Ivan Freely

Many Morsis indeed. There’s strong support of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

Hassan Ghonem

Morsi is like Erdogan a zionist scumbag to destroy the region

Pat Dunne

Well if Washington misses a “Peace” payment they might go back to being an Israeli enemy.

MikeH

“do you actually believe Egypt will stand up to them or ZioAmerica”

Reasonable question. Without the actually capability to stand up to them, it is a moot point anyway.

Wayne Nicholson

The USA will hate this … their influence in the region is being undermined. Israel will use this to leverage even more defence $$$$ from US taxpayers.

alejandro casalegno

Egypt is a servant of the zionists……………MOST of arabs are……….

JIMI JAMES

1,130 BHP,YEP!

<>

Why should we hate it? Egypt is smart enough not to break the peace deal and it’s good for both sides.

Fog of War
Poppadop

Wait, aren’t Khazarian or Ashkenazi “Jews” also White…?

Fog of War

Of course not, they even admit so. Jews are only ” white ” when its convenient . They are a derivative of Turk like creatures. In fact, go ask one what they consider themselves.

ΠΑΡΜΕΝΙΩΝ

The real Jews they have nothing to do with its geographical location of present-day Israel. The name Israel or IS-RA-EL means “Almighty Sun” . is stolen from them.

Poppadop

You can call Khazarian “Jews” Turkic or Asian, but look where Khazaria used to be. If you saw a person from Ukraine, Georgia, Southwest Russia, around that area, wouldn’t you call that person White…?

Fog of War

The Khazars are not from there originally, those areas were just the extent of their empires. The Mongol hoard had the biggest empire in the world, are the people from the territories they had conquered Mongols ? Absolutely not.

TIGRICA19937

turks are white?

Poppadop

[shrugs] Maybe Turks are White, maybe they’re Asian… It’s difficult to tell with that area of Eurasia…

Hassan Ghonem

as long as u do not break, we do not break. if u are dying tho, we will break for sure to join the party

Dagnir

Only in the hands of a skilled operator. Usually that excludes arabs.

tom

Racist much?

War is God’s way of teaching humans (usually men) that the people they believe to be inferior to them are not.

tom

Well, after all, the Abrams is a 19th-century tank.

Didn’t they use them in the Civil War?

johnny rotten

Bitter cocks for the Nazi-Zionists.

<>

We’re not worried, if they ever break the peace deal then Cairo would lose, and Sisi is not stupid.

Hard Hawk

base on reality I dont think israel can not affort an all out confrontation with Egypt because it will not be Egypt alone in the process. But is not in any ones plans to attack the other so ……….. this is academic.

<>

On the contrary, we have a good cooperation.

tom

Until you don’t. Trouble with stealing people’s land and killing them when they object is that there is no statute of limitations.

cechas vodobenikov

Egypt and Israel cooperate in many ways; they both strangle Palestinians in Gaza

Hard Hawk

I dont hold the palestinians to very high esteem. I may not agree with what the jews are doing to them but on the other hand they have proven to many who help them in the past that are fanatical shit4brains islamists and turkish puppets so to me they deserve what they are getting as any one else of their kind.

A piece of shit is always a piece of shit no matter how you name it.

FlorianGeyer

For now.

d'Artagnan

You are still posting childish nonsense I see. You will have close this account too if the West Bank of River Jordan in Palestine is not annexed by the Zionist land rustlers next week as promised by Nothing Yahoo.

Lone Ranger

Its a nice round number :)
CIA trolls will cry and rage ;)

d'Artagnan

This has to be the reverse Robin Hood deal as US taxpayers will be paying for Russian weaponry, since Egypt is a bankrupt rentier vassal of the US, since Sadat sold Egyptian national interests for $3 billion annual aid. Egypt should buy more arms from Russia and have the western taxpayers pay. Sounds like an excellent deal.

Lone Ranger

I agree.
Fair is fair :)

Vitex

Well, it’s better than buying crap from the US MIC. Surprised the US will allow this

Lone Ranger

Its probably against Turkey.
Egypt is mainly using Abrams while Turkey the Leopard 2A4 which has a slight edge over the Abrams.

tom

Although of course any tank, no matter how great, is easy meat for air power. So it’s really a question of who owns the air.

Although missiles like Iskander don’t pay much attention to air power.

Fog of War

Of course these 500 T-90s will never be used against a certain ” shitty country ” full of small hats. Putin would never allow that.

Kamīrusan

Even if Putin “allowed it” the Egyptians would never use them against the interests of the US/Israel

Polopa Weki

sanctions on the way..

paolinks

The US is playing a dangerous game with the sanctions. They should understand that economy doesn’t need finance, it is the other way around. Sanctioned countries can build their one financial system and exclude the US, which will find themselves sanctioned!

MichaH

You can not build your own financial system, if it is not able to interact with the global world financial system like swift and so on.

JIMI JAMES

YOU CAN TRADE IN GOLD,THEN!

BMWA1

This is why Adam and Eve Founded Federal Reserve on 6th Day

paolinks

You can. Swift is nothing more than a set of protocols to exchange messages on a computer network. To build another financial system, you just need a good number of countries on your side.

If the bulk of the world economies exit Swift and enter a new system, the US are screwed.

Fog of War

Why a good number ? Technically you just need two to start, for instance, China and Russia stop using dollars for all their transactions, then slowly bring in other nations. Eventually, most nations will come over to the Chinese / Russian system

vivekananda

The EU will start own, alternative sysitem to SWIFT, soon. Also cards like VISA will be not depend on USA and dollar, anymore.

The Soviet Russia was independent on the rest of the world. And made the highest jump in russian history. Today no country is in whole isolation.

cechas vodobenikov

more complicated—you are correct that conditions improved for people more than nearly any society in history in the USSR; however there was trade amongst non aligned nations–India, Somalia, Africa; the USSR sold gas to Europe also

Harry Smith

EU already built it to trade with Iran.

Lone Ranger

Indeed.
China also has the AIIB and Russia and many EU countries already joined.

Fog of War

nope, they are dragging their feet.

Ivan Freely

Yes you can. China developed the CIPS while Russia has the SPFS. Iran is currently looking at alternatives now. Internally, both Chinese and Russian banks no longer require SWIFT. IIRC, Chinese banks can also communicate with their Russian counterpart without the use of SWIFT (i.e. CIPS SPFS). In other words, Western sanctions have no effect internally; only to Western based institutions.

Fog of War

Just imagine, in the days before the home computer and the internet, the countries of the world didnt trade, didnt exchange anything, didnt share information and there was no global economy. Virtual dark ages. Thank god we have SWIFT now, otherwise the world would collapse into barbarism. SMH

LavXolm

Uncle Sam should be drawn with his head up his butt.

Kamīrusan

Looks like the Abrams isn’t doing it for the Egyptians, i’m sure the deal with the US came with a lot of limitations and restrictions and downgrades, this is why you should never depend on one for your source of weapons.

it baffles how there aren’t many buying Russian systems they’re effective cheaper and do way more for what it’s worth compared to the US, i’m sure the blackmail and the sanctions play a role in this as usual, can’t compete head on

Ivan Freely

The problem with having too many suppliers for equipment is the increase cost of training and logistics. The ideal situation is to produce your own equipment and not be dependent on anyone.

tom

Apart from its great age, the Abrams isn’t very happy with sand. They have quite a lot of that in the Middle East and North Africa.

cechas vodobenikov

Egypt receives $1.5 billion in military assistance from USA annually; love this–amerikans pay Egypt to purchase Russian products. “amerikans are ignorant and unteachable”. George Santayana

Jim Bim

Egypt could do without the $1.5 billion, it is rather the US who uses the military assistance ( bribe ) to have leverage and access over the decision making in Egypt.

Lone Ranger

Because its fake news.

BlueHeadLizard

How many refuels does it need to reach the new Ethiopia dam?

Dick Von Dast'Ard

Now Russia needs to build a nuclear powered tank…

FlorianGeyer

Lol

FlorianGeyer

Trumpy will not like this deal :)

SnowCatzor

After Iraq, this is the middle-eastern state opting to buy new T-90s instead of additional Abrams. The Abrams is just too expensive and logistically-challenging I guess, especially considering it only offers some marginal advantages over the T-90MS in certain areas.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnJCYK2F2N0

Lone Ranger

Not even marginal advantages.
The T-90 is superior on all fronts and its cheaper.
Aside from that Abrams arent produced anymore, U.S. still has a stockpile of around 6000 tanks they sell a couple of hundred from time to time.

SnowCatzor

To be fair, the video I posted was comparing the T-90MS to the most modern Abrams variant, whereas the Egyptians only have the old M1A1 variant. So yes. compared to the M1A1 the T-90MS is far better at a lower price.

The other issue I forgot to mention is that America stopped allowing Egypt to manufacture Abrams after the Muslim Brotherhood was overthrown by the military. Russia offers far less strings attached to their equipment.

SOF

It will be a better option over the jet fuel thirsty gas turbine engine of the Abrams. While the Abrams has higher horsepower to weight ratio its range is just over 400 km on roads and drops to 200km cross-country.

The T-90 MS is 48 metric tonnes, depending on what version of the Abrams it can be from 60 to 65 metric tonnes, which can be a factor when crossing over bridges and soft ground. The lighter weight is also the typical range found in tanks with autoloaders, an essential component that reduces the crew required to operate and is useful in combat situations as well as reducing crew fatigue issues.

Other features not mentioned here:

“…inertial navigation systems, new Relikt explosive reactive armour (ERA) that covers more of the tank, and a steering wheel. A new removable turret bustle is included, which provides storage for 8 additional rounds. The T-90MS is ready for serial production. 4 video cameras provide a 360° view of the environment, while the tank is more connected to command. The T-90MS has an upgraded thermal imager that can detect tanks over 3300 meters away.” – Wikipedia

With Egypt and Russia cooperating Russia has more overview on the security of the Suez Canal, which also ties in with Egypt’s on board the Belt and Road Initiative which has a maritime component.

World_Eye

Uuuuaauu, so who said that Egypt will not intervene in Libya, why those 500 tanks and above all T-90s so soon or later Egypt will enter in Libyan conflict.

verner

sisi is an opportunist and when the rest of the middle east decide to wipe the jews in palestine off the face of earth, sisi will join up on the anti-jew side and those 500 tanks will come in handy. what we’re talking about is some 250 million inhabitants in the middle east all of whom hate the jews in palestine. so the outcome is a certainty, the jews will be on the run, like rats, and palestine returned to the rightful owners, the palestinians. yipee, a day to behold and given the facts of the jewish history in palestine, no mercy for jews.

lovethemapples

T90 is an amazing machine. But will Egyptians be able to operate them. They do buy lots of latest state of art technology but no coordination between them. Maybe I am judging by 6day war only, but so far that is the only conflict Egypt was involved in the recent history. Maybe they have gotten better, perhaps we will witness soon.

goingbrokes

Before 6 day war Egypt never had experience of combined operations including air war. Egyptian pilots did very well actually. By the time of Yom Kippur war their co-ordination was much better, ATGMs had arrived and israel was saved by US flying and delivering tanks straight from factory to the battle field.
They learnt a lot from both conflicts, including the fact that it is futile to face israel on the conventional battlefield when US gives unlimited support to it. All things being equal I think they are quite a tough opponent.

lovethemapples

They might be able to turn this situation around if they commit enough, which would mean to truely use the logistical advantage. But I don’t think this conflict is worth commiting (to a level to get Turkish troops out of Libya) from Egyptian point of view, specially with the global economy being in this state. Neither Turkey seems to be willing to go all in, or afford an open or proxy war with Egypt.
My call, it will be a stalemate near Sirte, but GNA will take over the south (oil fields).
