Egypt Receives First Batch Of Russian Su-35 Air-Superiority Fighters Despite Threat Of US Sanctions

Click to see full-size image

The Egyptian army is to receive its first batch of Sukhoi Su-35 air-superiority fighters, judging by photographs that were captured of the Russian jets presumably en route to Egypt.

Five of the Sukhoi Su-35 Flankers, which are now owned by the Egyptian Air Force, were seen headed to Egypt. They are given numbers between 9210 and 9214, according to the RT’s Arabic-language news site.

The entire deal, signed in 2019, was for the purchase of upwards of 20 Su-35 air-superiority fighter jets, with a cost of $2 billion.

As has become customary, the US is objected to Cairo’s purchase of Russian hardware, and these was the usual threat of sanctions.

Just after the deal was signed, US officials were cited saying that “the United States could impose sanctions on Egypt and block it from future military sales if it goes ahead with a purchase of Russian warplanes.”

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Defense Secretary Mark Esper warned Egypt against concluding the purchase of Russia’s Sukhoi Su-35.

In November 2019, US Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs R. Clarke Cooper told reporters at the Dubai Airshow that was held in November 2019: “It puts them [Egypt] at risk of sanctions and it puts them at risk of loss of future acquisitions. It’s not a new thing. Cairo is clearly aware of this. It’s not new news.”

The planes are being delivered, and whether sanctions will actually be imposed is yet to be seen.

It is interesting that Egypt is neglecting the US’ calls, since it is the biggest beneficiary of foreign military from the US, after Israel.

Washington has provided billions in economic and military aid to Egypt over the past years, including its F-16 fighters.

Back in May 2020, the US State Department announced that it had approved a $2.3 billion military sales deal for Egypt, which includes delivery of equipment to upgrade 43 advanced Apache attack helicopters.

Cairo has long tried to diversify its arms sources for national security purposes, reaching out to countries like Germany, France, China and Spain, an indication that it is not solely looking to Russia.

Zionism = EVIL

The best part is that they are paid for by dumbass Americunt deadbeat taxpayers dollars and Saudi morons money. Win-Win for all. ROFLMAO.

HiaNd

Isn’t that beautiful …Buying Russian weapons against the interest of those who pay them

Pompeo is getting ulcer as we speak :)

If they put their army in good shape Egypt might become important regional power and the strongest Arab army now when Iraq is occupied and in shambles while Saudis are proven to be totally impotent and not match to Iran in anything and by far….

Zionism = EVIL

The stupid Americunt arseholes made the same hollow threats to Turkey with the S-400 purchase and did fuckall. They are just loudmouth impotent losers.

HiaNd

“They are just loudmouth impotent losers.”

Every day more

Zionism = EVIL

I am not sure if you get the Zionist mouthpiece BBC, even they are calling the Americunts a failed state as they had an hour long special on the growing unrest in the US, its imploding economy and loss of face globally. 25,000 Americunts are dying a week of the Pimpeovirus and 8 million know infected. The real numbers are much higher as there is no functioning universal health care system. Go to DRUDGE, a US website and see how pathetic their failed state is. Millions more lost their jobs and there no unemployment benefits. Feel sorry for the dumbasses who let the Jews destroy them.

HiaNd

You are to well informed for ordinary person…you know that?

Thanks for “DRUDGE” !

Zionism = EVIL

Thanks. Check out RENSE too, it is for the pissed off rednecks but shows the level of hatred and depravity in the imploding Americunt shithole.

HiaNd

You keep en eye on them, aren’t you…. Or just taking pleasure observing them, falling in decay every day more.

Zionism = EVIL

I have been an intelligence officer most of my life both ELINT and HUMINT. This is coming as no surprise to me. Their hubris was unsustainable.

Антон С

“Or just taking pleasure observing them”
Yep.) Looks like maidan in Kiev, but with higher class decorations. Hollywood stages great shows.

d'Artagnan

They also threatened India for buying Russian weapons.

Антон С

Indonesia (for Su-35), Turkey (for S-400) and so on.

d'Artagnan

Let’s hope Russia looks after its strategic interests and arms Iran with this super Flanker, the best of its generation. Armenia has SU-30SM and that is enough to keep Azerbaijan sweating despite Zionist support. The sale of the SU-35 to Iran will result in a coronary event for overweight big mouth Pompeo.

HiaNd

“Russia looks after its strategic interests”

Well Russia’s “strategic interests” are to SELL those SU-35 not to give them away….
Low oil and gas prices affect Russian budget also.
They can’t support Syria and now even Iran on the top.
China has granted plenty of money (loans) to Iran lately in exchange for the oil & gas I suppose.

Brad Millar

at the end of the day America is a nation of mongo catholic scum

Russians make good stuff,i remember in the Yom Kipur War when the Egyptians annihilated Israeli tanks in the Sinai,they were using Russian Saggar anti tank missiles.

Zionism = EVIL

Indeed, the SAM 6 Mobile umbrella worked well too, but Sadat the cunt sold out the Syrian’s by stopping the advance before Mitla ad Giddi passes. The SAMS should have moved up with the advance as General Shazli and the Soviets had advised. As a young officer I toured the Sinai front in late 1974 and you could see Zionist cowards retreating M-48 and Centurian tracks all over the place criss-crossing in panic. An Egyptian colonel who was guiding the battlefield tour for foreign attaches, said that the Sagger 9M14 Malyutka put the fear of God in the Zionists. There were wires from the missiles all over the frontlines and dozens of burnt Pattons and Centurians along with half-tracks, M-113 APC. In many cases the Zionists just fled, leaving behind opened ration cans and even fruit which was rotting.

alejandro casalegno

Yes……..the USSR give the best weapons and training to Egypt…..and after the 73 war, egypt become a US-israel servant………like MOST of arabs today.

Lone Ranger

Hardley the best weapons they had at the time.
Base export models.
Israel won because the U.S. covered their losses, Russia didnt cover Arab losses due to political reasons.

alejandro casalegno

With less soviet weapons in quantity and quality……..VIETNAM did a lot………a lot more against USA!!!!!!!!!

Lone Ranger

They had terrain advantage (jungle), plus China was helping too.
Vietnam had more SAM launchers as well.
At the time North Vietnam had the best air defense system after the Soviet-Union.

alejandro casalegno

They had only the original SA-2 Dvina, not even the Desna or Vostok models…..
And NOT SA-3 Neva, the movile SA-6 Kub and not “Shilka”!!!!!!!!

Lone Ranger

Russia feared state of the art SAMs could be copied by China.
Aside from that the S-125 was brand new at the time.
Its prime role was to protect big Russian cities.
They needed a few years till they could manufacture enough for export.
But non the less Vietnam had enough S-75s.
U.S. very rarely dared to cross into North Vietnami airspace, for a good reason…

Cromwell

The North Vietnamese built a very sophisticated layered AA system,it cost the US hundreds of aircraft.

Lone Ranger

Indeed.
They used those systems to their maximum potential.
Pretty impressive actually.

gryzor84

that is correct, US losses would have skyrocketed even higher had the Soviets been a bit more confident with their own allies, as always…. 5 times more B-52s would have fallen with the systems you mentioned, countless more fighter-types with the SA-6.

gryzor84

yeah, those “telephone poles” at the end of the war pretty much destroyed the equivalent of the entirety of the USN inventory with close to 2200 air losses of fixed-wing aircraft, along with 500 more Rotary-wing assets. Unimaginable numbers for any contemporary theater or conflict involving the US today but in the event of a total war with Iran, that could change fast.

The only part where the Soviet let the NVA down was during Operation Linebacker II when they depleted their unfit SA-2s for high-altitude interceptions of the B-52, repeatedly requesting more SA-3 that were never delivered in quantity, being quite cutting edge at the time the Soviet feared some would be captured by US troops in ground operations. Still, kudos to the Vietnamese, despite the inherent disadvantage incurred by non-optimal weaponry for the task at hand, more than 10% of the strike packages went down.

Lone Ranger

Indeed.
But I think the U.S. lost more than 500 helos in total, around 5500.
Not counting South Vietnamese losses.
Of course not all to SAMs but quite a few.

gryzor84

Yeah sorry my bad I mispoke, I meant close to 2,500 Helos (i meant “500 more than their total number of fighter losses”), some sources push it as far as 3,000/3,500 but are up to debate. I’m fine with 2,500 anyway, that’s quite the number lol

Lone Ranger

According to Wikipedia it was 5500.
But sideissue.

gryzor84

Oh ok then. I took my figures from this page, which offers quite detailed statistics. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_aircraft_losses_of_the_Vietnam_War#USAF_rotary-wing

alejandro casalegno

·They depleted the SA-2″ was a USA fake news, the vietnamese had many SAMs……..BUT not ready to use, the supports troops only get 40 SAMs a day to launch.

gryzor84

I did not know such details, thanks. Any links I could browse on the topic please ?

alejandro casalegno

The book “The 11 days of Christmas” by Marshall L Michel III is a superb book of the battle, with comprensive information of USA and Vietnam sides.

gryzor84

thx !

Zionism = EVIL

Largest Americunt airlift in history.

gryzor84

They actually did cover just as the US did, by the end of the first ceasefire both Egypt and Syria + Iraqi reinforcements were ready to resume operations.

The thing is, with Sadat suddenly moving Egypt out of the campaign and expelling Soviet attachés in dire ingratitude and treachery, Hafez Al-Asad decided to ultimately call off his counterattack at the Golan. Sadat even expelled General Shazli out of his war room when the latter suggested mobilizing the strong, operational and highly motivated air-force to bomb the hell out of the gap created by Sharon’s brigades between the Egyptian 2nd and 3rd armies, but was severely rebuffed.

Indeed, he has already clinched his end of the deal with Kissinger who promised him a return of Israel to the pre-67 lines and the all-important control of the Suez canal, of course. He absolutely wasn’t allowed to even scratch Sharon in that little love affair of theirs, hence his decision to kick Shazli in a quasi de-facto exile in his own country, away from any forme of military power.

Plans were in place for a total counter-attack on the Egyptian side as well, namely from the encircled though much-better equipped and numerous 3rd army, it involved massive air and artillery bombardment and according to Mosheh Dayan and some of his advisors at the time, it would probably have worked in freeing it.

The decision to let Israel appear as a “winner” with its wedge between the two armies was actually one of the key sides of the deal to secure negotiation for the peaceful return of the whole of Egyptian territory at the expense of other Arab states.

Fog of War

Political reasons or ((( political reasons ))). The Soviet Union was always a little too fond of Israhell for some reason.

Cromwell

Yes i always found that strange why they would do that after the Soviet union saved their arses.

Cromwell

Yes they came unstuck i believe because they left the area of AA missile cover,when they threw the pontoons over the canal that was a good operation,thats what the SAA and allies should do over the Euphretes one day at daybreak,the bastards won’t be expecting it.

Fog of War

Did they leave their dead behind ?

Rhodium 10

Kornet ATGM destroyed most of all 42 Merkava tanks lost during Lebanon war 2006..

<>

Learn the difference between a hit and a destroyed tank, dozens were hit but only 5 were completely destroyed.

Rhodium 10

With only 5 destroyed..IDF would not have turned to go home…

<>

We didn’t leave because of the military campaign, you left because the UNSC intervened an forced both sides to sign a ceasefire deal before Lebanon would have been totally destroyed. You think it will be the case again? you’re naive.

Zionism = EVIL

Hush TWATTING punk :)

rulla

He’s not a punk. He is a warrior (as he said before), a true nightmare for unarmed Palestinians and women and children.

Zionism = EVIL

Indeed, he is also a fantasy reservist who publishes his imminent deployment on a Russian website monitored by all major intel services, shows you how much of a liar and a moron he is. Did not even know the main assault rifle of the IDF child killers. Supposedly he was being sent to invade Lebanon and then Syria. ROFLMAO.

Cromwell

Since when did you pricks take any notice of the UN? when you had your arses handed to you.

<>

More like it was the U.S who forced us to stop the war, one more month and there would be nothing left, IDF was already about to cross the Litani river.

Zionism = EVIL

42 confirmed kills, and 5 captured, 2 handed over to Iran for inspection and counter-measures and the result was the Dehalieviah ATGM, known as Abrams and Merkava killer.

alejandro casalegno

5 captured, hard to believe……any photo, video???????

Zionism = EVIL

There is one parked at the Hezbollah museum in South Lebanon, I have seen it myself. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/9596f126abd92b0725f48afb540314a0ff60b5952dbeb8846f6b9fb56b7d351c.jpg

alejandro casalegno

The “Merkava” in the museun in Lebanon is NOT real………is a T-55 modified to look like a Merkava…………

Zionism = EVIL

No, parts of a destroyed Merkava are also included in the Museum one.

alejandro casalegno

Sure, is my point, Hezbollah destroyed dozens of Merkava, BUT capture one is a very different thing………..

One thing Hezbollah capture and is more important than Merkava was a SPIKE ATGM missile………taken from IDF Sayeret…..

alejandro casalegno

This photo is from Beirut in 1982……one of the first Merkava destroyed.

Zionism = EVIL

Indeed, the Syrian pink panthers ambushed it at Khalideh junction with Milans. 5 were knocked out at this engagement alone.

alejandro casalegno

The MILAN was at the time TIER1……portable and lethal…..

Zionism = EVIL

The first time I saw Syrian Gazelle with HOT missiles and they were pretty competent too. The pilots were dedicated and did some fancy NOE flying coming in from the Chouf and then disappearing. They took a toll of the Zionist cowardly cunts, and then the froggies cut off spares. I tell you the PLO were the worst arseholes in terms of putting up a fight. They had a lot of manpower but simply fled.The PFLP amongst the Palestinians were tough fighters and put very strong resistance despite being abandoned by the arsehole Arafat. Eventually they all went to Syria. The AMAL , forerunner to Hezbollah was small back then headed by Nabih Berri and the Mousavi brothers, but the Shia were one hell of fighters and would attack the Zionist cunts left and right around South Beirut. The dumbass Zionists should have taken a hint in 1982 and gone back.

alejandro casalegno

Yes……..the zionist invade Lebanon to expel the PLO…….they did…..and the Hezbollah rise……….jajajajajajajajajaja!!!!!!!!!!!1

Zionism = EVIL

Yes, AMAL first only fought to keep the Zionists out of Shia areas, but then the Zionist morons started committing atrocities on Shia women and children and that was it. The first major Zionist target to be hit was their occupation headquarters near Tyre and it was devastated by a two ton truck bomb killing over 100 of the cowards. Then there were attacks every day and Hezbollah was born with Iranian help. Iran sent 2000 soldiers to Bekaa to arm and train the Hezbollah at Balbek.

alejandro casalegno

I know, i read a decent “Western” book, “Warriors of God” by Nicholas Blanford

Zionism = EVIL

Hezbollah: Born with a Vengeance is a must read.

alejandro casalegno

And was the first photo!!!!!!!!!……….today everybody have a cell to take photos and show to the World in seconds!!!!!

kamalashila

16 out of 400 IL tanks

the rets of 40 was destroyed by booby traps.

<>

Yeah, attacking us on our most Holy day, then they got their asses kicked when we took Sinai back.

gryzor84

You never “took the Sinai back”… plus, to the very last day of the war you failed in getting back any strategically important regional cities as well, like Ismailia and Suez to which you sustained heavy losses and ended up retreating sometimes with equipment and armor left in place.

They had an entire army East of the Suez Canal as well and by the IDF’s own admission at the time, had the deal between Sadat and Kissinger gone through, Golda would have found herself with a massive Syrian counterattack at the Golan front AND a massive Egyptian bombardment of Sharon’s brigade to tear apart the very fragile wedge he had thrown between the 2nd and 3rd armies.

Of course a lot of Israeli proparanda tried to paint the Israeli reaching of the “Kilometer 101” with a few brigades in the highway leading the Cairo as some sort of victory, though more than 350 Egyptian airforce jets an hundreds of tank around Cairo itself were dispatched from reserved to prevent anything real from happening to it. Golda herself in her final memoir admitted that the 73 was a quasi net loss, if we discount the Golan they held onto.

Israel’ post-67 surface shrunk many fold much closer to what it was in size in 48, and only had the Golan left in its hands.

<>

That is true gryzor, we were caught up by a surprise attack and weren’t ready. But it’s not like the Egyptian army could have invaded Israel, by the time they got here we would have had all of our army units ready. Sinai itself was imporatn back then for the same reason it is now – a buffer zone between the two armies. Today it would be much harder to plan such an attack without us seeing it, I thought Morsi might do it when he came into power but he kept the peace deal too. Those times are long gone, no need for more blood between the countries today as we have no disputes.

gryzor84

Absolutely. Likewise you wouldn’t ever be able to plan a surprise attack against a future Egyptian government you would not like, that goes both ways and that’s the kind of two-way street that keep the peace.

And you probably know as well as I that Saddat and even firebrand General Shazli never even thought nor wanted to going all the way to Tel-Aviv. Their goal was two-pronged :

-Avenge the humiliating defeat of the 67 war in the eyes of their people
-Reclaim every inch of their territory back, starting by the crucial Suez

And it is refreshing to see you take note of Morsi’s willingness to stick to the deal. Can you believe that , nothing less than a Muslim Brotherhood leader of whom everybody would expect visceral contempt of anything Jewish or Israeli ?

As I told you many times in our exchanges, once Israel agrees to real negotiations and actually end up willingly giving back lands they don’t legally own and go as far as dismantling fresh settlements (which they did in Sinai), long-lasting ententes can be scored and the war hatchet can be buried for good.

Sadat came to the table because of clear , written, explicit promises from Dayan and Golda that they would end up relinquishing every bit of Egyptian soil they did not own.

Imagine what would happen should you once possibly share access to the Golan’s water ressources and jump-start joint deployment and observation points in its plain ending up in just the kind of DMZ you mentioned ? It would work just like you already did with Jordan, to which administrative control of Al-Aqsa was given along with 30% of the Golani yearly water ressources, making it another major Arab country that made peace with Israel.

And now, imagine once this is done, the ripple effect for Hezbollah and Iran that you hate and want to destroy or see gone from your border ASAP.
Such outcome of course would require the likes of Bibi to be gone out of office and hopefully in a well-deserved cage.

One hard and mutually painful push for concrete negotiations is all it takes for your foe to finally start listening to you and stop colliding with your enemies.

Similarly, once the West Bank issues and East-Jerusalem ownership are settled with the PA, imagine one second how hard Hamas would fall, deprived of its main religious and nationalistic motive to keep on bashing Israel in its manifesto ?

alejandro casalegno

Please…………don´t waste this superb aircraft how did in the past with the russian MiGs………..please!!!!!!!!!!!

U.S. sanctions are a joke nowdays…

Антон С

By the way, it’s not even sanctions, but embargo, one-side restrictions. Sanctions can be set up by the UN.

cechas vodobenikov

sanctions, tariffs, financial bribery, extortion—-the Us even failed to create a coup in Cuba….these distinctions r not considerable. a nation w a live culture and a real economy would not need them

Антон С

I’m just saying that sanctions are lawful. One-side restrictions – not. So it’s not sanctions from US side.

nothing is settled by these low level hybrid wars—imperialism solidifies the persistence of peoples faced with challenges to sovereignty—observable in ME and other nations, petty racialism merely divides and serves the interests of ruling classes….anglosphere sanctions, tariffs demonstrate failure …the awareness that money is not morality….anglo imperialists can buy a few dissidents in various other nations to convince their peasants that civilized peoples admire them. if their empire wasn’t collapsing they would not require sanctions, tariffs, invasions
