On Monday, some media reported that President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov has died. Tashkent denied this information. Russian Embassy in Uzbekistan can neither confirm nor deny the information about Karimov’s death.

Did President of Uzbekistan Die?

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov died on the 79-year life of a brain hemorrhage, the Fergana news agency, along with some other media, reported on Monday.

According to agency’s sources, death occurred at 15-16 am Tashkent time.

Tashkent denies reports that Karimov has died in hospital. “Doctors assess his condition as stable,” a source close to the leadership of the republic told the Interfax news agency.

At the same time, representatives of the Russian Embassy in Uzbekistan said that they can neither confirm nor deny the information about Karimov’s death.

On August 29, Uzbek president’s daughter Lola Tillyaeva announced that her father, Islam Karimov, is in intensive care after suffering a brain hemorrhage on Saturday. Earlier, Uzbek authorities also confirmed that Kerimov had a stroke.

Meanwhile, Tashkent also denied the information about an arrest of the First Vice-Premier, Minister of Finance of Uzbekistan, Rustam Azimov.

On Tuesday, representatives of the office of the first deputy prime minister told Interfax that Azimov is on his workplace. Earlier, some foreign online media reported that Rustam Azimov was placed under house arrest.

Speculations about the fate of Karimov have already made jitters in the Central Asian contry’s political and media spheres.
