Clashes In Eastern Damascus Continued Despite Safe Zones Agreement

On Saturday, clashes continued between the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the joint forces of Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) and the Al-Rahman Corps in the Al-Qaboun district east of the Syrian capital, Damascus.

According to pro-government sources, the clashes are ongoing in the area because the district is excluded from the safe zones agreement because HTS (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) operates there.

Since the the Saturday morning, the Syrian Air Force had conducted multiple airstrikes on HTS positions and destroyed a headquarters of HTS killing all fighters inside.

Additionally, the SAA captured several buildings in the southeastern part of the Al-Qaboun district. The SAA also discovered a new undeground tunnel used by militants and destroyed it.

On the other hand, members of the Al-Rahman Corps repelled the SAA advance in the Al-Basateen area in Qabun.

Jaish al-Islam claimed that its members killed five Syrian soldiers and destroyed a bulldozer of the SAA.

Local sources reported that an attack by the Al-Rahman Corps on the positions of Jaish al-Islam in the town of Ash’ari took place in the Easten Ghouta region.

Separately, the Al-Rahman Corps carried out an arrest campaign against supporters of Jaish al-Islam in the areas of Arbeen and Zamalka.

Jaish al-Islam announced yesterday that Noman Awad Abu Issam, one of its military commanders in the Eastern Ghouta, was killed by members of HTS.
