On November 10, a new wave of Russian airstrikes hit the northwestern Syrian region of Greater Idlib, according to Syrian opposition sources.

The airstrikes targeted a building complex in the village of Brouma in the northern outskirts of Idlib city. Al-Qaeda-affiliated Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), the de-facto ruler of Greater Idlib, maintains a large presence in the area with many covert positions, headquarters and ammunition depots.

Opposition sources claimed that five people were killed and ten others were wounded as a result of the airstrikes. However, Russian drone footage suggests that these claims are inaccurate, if not completely false. The footage shows members of the Western-backed White Helmets walking slowly and carelessly back to the alleged targeted site after running towards an ambulance with a stretcher as if they were acting.

Last week, the Russian Reconciliation Center warned that the White Helmets may soon stage a provocation with fake footage of civilian casualties in Greater Idlib.

The situation in Greater Idlib remains unstable. A ceasefire brokered last year by Russia and Turkey is being violated on a daily basis by HTS and its allies.

Recent reports revealed that the Syrian Arab Army and its allies may launch a ground operation in Greater Idlib to reinforce the ceasefire agreement. This explains why the White Helmets could be interested in staging a provocation in the region right now.
