Late on January 26, the Houthis (Ansar Allah) announced that they had struck a large gathering of Saudi-led coalition proxies in the 3rd Military District in the central province of Ma’rib with a ballistic missile.

Brig. Gen. Yahya Sari, a spokesman for the Yemeni group, said that the missile strike was a success. Dozens of Saudi-backed were supposedly killed or wounded.

The Houthis’ claims were dismissed by pro-Saudi news sources, who claimed that the missile strike resulted in civilian casualties only. According to the al-Arabiya TV, the strike killed five civilians, including a woman. At least 23 others were wounded. These claims are yet to be fully verified.

The missile strike was likely a response by the Houthis to a recent ground attack by Saudi-led coalition proxies in Ma’rib. The attack, which was led by the United Arab Emirates (UAE)-backed Giants Brigades, pushed the Houthis out from the district center of Harib.

The Giants Brigades and other coalition proxies are still advancing in Ma’rib. Their next target will likely be the district of al-Jubah.

The Houthis have been showing fierce resistance. However, their defenses in Ma’rib may soon crack as a result of the Saudi-led coalition’s immense pressure.
