Churkin: Turkey Is Main Supplier of Arms for ISIS

Russia’s permanent representative to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, in a letter to the UN Security Council said that Turkey is the main supplier of weapons and military equipment for the terrorist group Islamic State, and that security service of the country are in charge of implementation of these activities.

“Turkey is the main supplier of arms and military equipment to fighters of IS, which it does through the National Security organization. Transportation is made mainly by vehicles, including transport within the humanitarian convoys”, says the letter, as reported by news agency TASS.

Churkin presented the data on the delivery of weapons and ammunition to terrorists in Syria during the period between November 2015 and late January 2016. The Russian diplomat also stated that on January 25, 2016 Turkey Foundation for Human Rights and Freedom delivered equipment and food in weight of about 55 tons to the terrorists of the Islamic State.

He noted that a key role in supplying terrorists with weapons is played by Foundation Besar, who in 2015 “organized 50 convoys to areas of Bajirbuchak and Kiziltepe, 260 kilometers north of Damascus”. Churkin informed the Security Council on the smuggling of explosives and industrial chemicals to terrorist groups in Syria, “which is usually organized from the Turkish territory”.
