ISIS terrorists continue to launch attacks against Syrian government forces and their allies in Syria’s vast central region.

Early on August 18, ISIS cells attacked several posts of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) near the town of al-Sholah, which is located on the Deir Ezzor-Homs highway. According to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), an officer was killed and five soldiers were wounded as a result of the attack.

At around the same time, the terrorists shelled Iranian-backed forces situated in the al-Bishri Mount right on the administrative border between Deir Ezzor and Raqqa. The SOHR said that an Iraqi fighter of Kata’ib Hezbollah was killed in the attack.

ISIS cells also attacked SAA troops near the town of al-Sukhnah in the eastern countryside of Homs. Heavy clashes took place in the area. However, no losses were reported.

Meanwhile, Syrian and Russian continue to target ISIS hideout in central Syria. On August 17, at least 30 airstrikes targeted the outskirts of al-Sholah as well as the surroundings of the town of al-Resafa in the southern Raqqa countryside. On August 18, more than 20 airstrikes targeted the western countryside of Deir Ezzor and the eastern countryside of Hama.

According to the SOHR, SAA operations and Russian airstrikes have claimed the lives of 973 terrorists of ISIS since 24 March 2019.

Despite sustaining heavy losses, the ISIS will not likely cease its operations in central Syria. The terrorist group understands that losing the region will mean its end in Syria.
