The British military no longer operates the AS-90 self-propelled howitzer, Army Technology reported on May 4, speculating that all howitzers of this type had been supplied to Ukraine.
Some 80 AS-90 were in service with the British military. At least 20 battle-ready howitzers and 12 non-functional spares were donated to Ukraine in 2023. The fate of the remaining approximate 50 howitzers in the United Kingdom is still unclear.
While the British military made no announcement on supplying additional AS-90s to Ukraine, it is highly likely that all the remaining howitzers had been sent to the country.
The AS-90 is typically armed with a 155 mm 39-calibre long barrel, with a maximum firing range of 32 kilometers. The maximum rate of fire is three rounds in ten seconds (burst); six per minute for 3 minutes (intense); and two per minute for 60 minutes (sustained).

The Russian military has already destroyed nearly all the AS-90s the UK supplied to Ukraine in 2023. Most of the howitzers were struck by counter-battery fire or targeted with loitering munitions.
Even before the start of the Russian special military operation in Ukraine, the UK has been a staunch supporter of the Kiev regime.
By April 30, the kingdom had committed £10.8 billion ($12,2 billion) in military support for Ukraine, according to an official government factsheet. The supplies included around 400 different capabilities, with packages including drones, tanks, boats, air defense systems, munitions and lightweight multirole missiles.
“We will sustain £3 billion a year in military aid until 2030 to 2031 and for as long as it takes (announced on 10 July 2024),” the factsheet, published on Gov.uk, states.
The UK’s costly support has failed to tip the balance of power in favor of Ukraine, which continues to suffer one defeat after another.
