This map provides a general look at the current military situation in Syria. Over the past few days, there were several important developments in the war-torn country.
- The Kurdish People’s Protectino Units (YPG) released a series of statements claiming that YPG cells had carried out a series of operations against Turkish-backed militant groups and the Turkish Armed Forces in the region of Afrin on October 16, 17 and 18. Summing up the claims, the YPG allegedly killed 4 Turkish-backed militants and a Turkish soldier and destroyed two vehicles.
- According to Syrian diplomatic and military sources, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (formerly Jabhat al-Nusra, the Syrian branch of al-Qaeda) recently moved several chemical weapons containers to the town of Jisr al-Shughour near the Idlib demilitarized zone.
- The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are developing their advance on the ISIS-held pocket of Hajin in the Euphrates Valley. According to the SDF, 6 ISIS members were recently killed there. The ISIS news agency Amaq claimed that a SDF vehicle had been destroyed.
