Biden’s Address To The Nation After Disappearance Won’t Solve The Political Crisis, With Many Asking Who Is Running The Country

On Wednesday night, US President Joe Biden finally made his first public address and appearance after being mysteriously gone for a whole week. The last two weeks have been unprecedentedly eventful for Americans, indeed. On July 13, former President Donald Trump was shot amid a massive security failure that remains unexplained. Four days later, the incumbent Democratic Party President Joe Biden literally disappeared from the public eye. These events are not completely unrelated: they both give a picture of the US as a closed society, haunted by deep politics, intrigues, manipulation, and lack of accountability.

On July 2, I wrote that Biden’s worsening senility had become embarrassingly unmanageable, and that any “solution” would require “a lot of political maneuvering and institutional creativity, with some legal ‘hacking’, and a little dose of palace intrigue – all of which can only further weaken the public credibility of US institutions and the political system.” One may speculate that his Covid diagnosis, his forced retreat to Delaware, and then his letter announcing his exit from the presidential race could have all been the beginning of a “solution” that could be described more or less along such lines.

CNN reported on July 11 that angry Democrats have been blaming the President’s close advisors “for shielding [the] public from [the] full extent of president’s decline.” According to an unnamed source, when Biden attends Cabinet meetings, they are “not free-wheeling, and pretty well-orchestrated”, with the meetings themselves being so infrequent, that one unnamed Cabinet secretary told CNN they are uncertain of Biden’s real condition because they rarely see him.

The New York Mag in turn talks about a “conspiracy of silence” to keep the US Commander-in-Chief’s mental decline as a secret. How much his Vice, Kamala Harris, knew about it, is also under scrutiny. Earlier this month White House sources were talking about a “triumvirate”, referring to Biden’s close advisers Bruce Reed, Mike Donilon, and Steve Ricchetti. It is no wonder that during the President’s short disappearance, there was speculation about him having been forced to resign by a “coup”.

Let us try to imagine for a second that the mental health of North Korea’s leader was under scrutiny. Then, a possible successor gets shot and is almost killed, and the secret service can’t explain the security failure – the secret service director resigns in a scandal. Then, the country’s head of state disappears for a week. Or, say, imagine all of that happened in China or Russia or any non-Western country. One can imagine the tone of the Western news stories covering it. This is the United States of America today.

One may recall that Biden had been last seen on July 17, getting off Air Force One and then being driven to his Delaware home. For a week he was not seen in public or on camera. On July 21 he posted a letter on X (former Twitter) announcing that he would not be seeking reelection, instead of formally addressing the nation in a broadcasted speech – this was unprecedented. The fact that the posted letter only displayed a digital signature didn’t help.

Even Biden’s surprise call to former campaign staffers on July 22 was labeled as “fake” by some. Kamala Harris, in all likelihood the new Democratic nominee, said: “Joe, I know you’re still on the rec… on the call.” It sounded as if she were going to say the word “recording” before correcting herself, and this prompted much speculation.

Many Republicans were even demanding “proof of life” – given the circumstances, their request actually makes a lot of sense. Biden’s address to the nation explaining his decision to exit the race (to “save democracy”) is not enough to end the political crisis, though. Republicans are attacking his Vice and demanding that he resign, the logic of it being quite clear: if he is unfit to run for President, then he is also unfit to govern. This begs another question, though, precisely that of who exactly has been governing.

Signs of Biden’s mental decline have been visible since at least 2021, with occasional news stories describing him as “mumbling incoherently” or “confused”. For years, US regime pundits have gaslighted the public audience into thinking it was all a delusion, and there is nothing more to the matter than “gaffes”, and edited or faked clips. In a word, nothing to worry about, just the usual “fake news” produced by the “far-right”. Time has shown that maybe this was not necessarily so.

Back in February 2024, Dr. Marty Makary, a John Hopkins University surgeon and professor, had already claimed the President was undergoing “cognitive decline right in front of our eyes.” On February 5, attorney Robert Hur published a report  on Biden’s controversial case pertaining to his illegal storage and disclosure of US classified documents (when he was Barack Obama’s Vice President). Hur justified his decision to not recommend prosecution of Biden by stating that “at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory… It would be difficult to convince a jury that they should convict him (….) of a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness.”

According to the same report, the President could not even remember when his son Beau Biden died – certainly a milestone event. Ronny Jackson, Biden’s former personal physician, also stated in early 2024 that the President should pass a battery of cognitive health exams before running in the next presidential election. There were and are legal paths for such a situation (the 25th Amendment, for example).

What the American authorities carried out instead was massive cover-up, which is typical of police states and authoritarian regimes, that being a quite accurate description of the United States since at least 2001, with the rise of the American police state brought by the infamous Patriot Act. It would be simply bad taste to describe as “democratic” in any way the nation of President-run assassination rings, and indefinite detention in secret prisons.

Any American President for the last years has been a temporary dictator, who can wage de facto war without Congress, while the intelligence agencies run amok, without oversight. One may recall that John Choon Yoo (former Deputy Assistant Attorney General), the author of the infamous “Torture Memos” during George W. Bush presidency, bizarrely stated that the US President literally may have the legal power to have someone tortured by crushing the testicles of the person’s child.

The United States is clearly the world’s main superpower, albeit a declining one. In March 2024, a The Nation piece was asking “who is in charge in the Biden White House”. The answer to that question was not clear back then – and it is far from being clear now. With lack of clarity as to who has actually been running the country, and a mysterious assassination attempt at a presidential candidate bringing doubts about the Secret Service itself, it has come to be the case that the nuclear superpower is a banana republic – one that seems to have come straight out of a cartoonish Cold War era regime.

how many willfully ignorant people will disregard the obvious change in height from ‘biden’. a simple lie with a straight face gets most people. not even a good lie that passes half a second of thought.

not only the height, the right ear lob and the face were a dead giveaway. some reporters already figured out but kept their silence to avoid getting suicided.

the face looks nothing alike, and the demeanor is diametric.
