The Russian military imposed control of a key settlement to the south of the city of Kostiantynivka in Donetsk on November 25, all while expanding its control around the city of Siversk in the same region.

In its daily briefing, the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that the Yug [South] Group of Forces imposed control over Ivanopolye right to the south of Kostiantynivka.

The attack on Ivanopolye was led by the 4th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, as well as the 78th and 1194th motorized rifle regiments, according to the ministry, which also said that weapons and equipment supplied by the NATO, including small arms, anti-tank missiles, grenade launchers, and surveillance systems, were captured inside the settlement.

The ministry also said that the capture of the settlement put the Yug Group of Forces closer to the southern outskirts of Kostiantynivka, further complicating the situation for Ukrainian troops in the city.

Russian drone operators can now detect and destroy “enemy military targets” inside the city with no restrictions, the ministry noted.

“The location of the settlement makes it an extremely significant point for the development of success,” said the commander of the 1st battalion of the 1194th regiment with the call sign “Jeff” quoted by the ministry as saying. “A good place where you can hide, take cover, place weapons, and work already beyond Konstantinovka. We rely more on stealth, choose our own path, and everything is working out for us.”

Russian Defence Minister Andrey Belousov congratulated command and personnel of the 4th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade, as well as the 78th and 1194th motorized rifle regiments on the capture of Ivanopolye.

“The personnel in the battles for freedom and independence of Donbass, breaking into the impregnable defenses of the enemy, skillfully acting on the offensive, has repeatedly proved that they rightfully bear the honorary name of the ‘guard’ unit,” the minister said in a post on Telegram.

From Ivanopolye, the Yug Group of Forces could storm the southern part of Kostiantynivka, or even expand its control in the city’s southern outskirts by attacking Berestok to the west. In any case, the capture of the settlement marks the beginning of a new phase in the battle for the city.

It’s worth noting that Russian troops are already operating in the southeastern part of Kostiantynivka. Kiev forces are reported to be preparing their defenses in the industrial zone and nearby high-rise buildings. However, their ability to hold onto these positions is questionable to say the least.

The Ukrainian formations deployed in the city include the 28th, 100th, and 112th brigades of the regular armed forces, as well as the 241st Territorial Defense Brigade and the “Lut” police brigade. Some of these formations have been fighting there for up to six months without receiving reinforcements.

To the east in Donetsk, Kiev forces are facing an even more serious situation in Siversk, where the Yug Group of Forces have already captured sizable areas in the city’s eastern and southern parts.

According to preliminary reports, Russian troops have cleared the northeastern outskirts of Sivers and begun storming the northern part of the city. The troops are also said to be working to expand their control to the south of the city, mainly around Zvanivka, which was captured a few days earlier.

Kiev forces clearly lack the means to organize any meaningful defense in Siversk. The battle in the city could go on for months, but the end result will be in favor of the Russian side.

Overall, the recent Russian advance in Kostiantynivka and Siversk shows that Ukraine is no longer capable of engaging in multiple battles in several directions. The combat capabilities of Kiev forces, especially when it comes to manpower, took a major hit as a result of the battle in the city of Pokrovsk, also located in Donetsk.

Ukraine’s decision to hold onto Pokrovsk at all costs, which had pure political motives, has proven to be a strategic disaster.

Kostiantynivka is as large as Pokrovsk. If Kiev decides to go into another suicidal battle there this could lead to a collapse not seen since the start of the special military operation.
