Azerbaijan’s GECF membership

Azerbaijan has officially presented a bid regarding their membership in the organization.

Azerbaijan’s GECF membership

On Saturday, Azerbaijan signed up for a membership in the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) as informed by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Energy Minister Natiq Abbasov. The petition will be put under consideration of the member countries in the next organization summit to be held in Tehran on November 23rd.

Since GECF encompasses the world’s top gas producers, the impact of being part of the organization would be quite significant for Azerbaijan’s energy market.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev will be part of the summit, even though none of the cited countries are members of GECF, but plan to attend as observers and guests.

During the organization’s summit, all the member countries make an exchange of experience, views, information and data, as well as coordination in gas related developments among member countries.

This year’s summit will also have representatives from OPEC (Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries) and IEF (International Energy Forum).
