Two airports in Ethiopia’s Amhara state, located near the Tigray battle zone, were targeted by rocket fire late on November 13, according to pro-government sources.

The targeted airports were: the Gondar airport and the Bahir Dar airport in Amhara state.

According to the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), TPLF forces conducted strikes on military bases in Bahir Dar and Gondar in retaliation for air strikes conducted by federal government forces.

“As long as the attacks on the people of Tigray do not stop, the attacks will intensify,” Getachew Reda, a spokesperson for the TPLF, said in a statement on the Facebook page of the Tigray state’s communications office.

A brief summary of the recent developments:

  • On November 13, several rockets were fired by TPLF towards the Bahir Dar and Gondar airports, according to Ethiopian officials;
  • On November 14, heavy shelling was reported around Senafe, an Eritrean trading centre 24 km north of the Ethiopia-Eritrea border;
  • On November 12, Amnesty Int accused TPLF forces of killing hundreds of civilians in Mai-Kadra (May Cadera) town.
