Army Kills 76 Taliban Members In Series Of Operation Across Afghanistan

On January 13, the Afghan Ministry of Defense (MoD) announced that the Afghan Army, backed up by the Afghan Air Force, conducted a series of special operations against the Taliban in the provinces of Nangarhar, Laghman, Nuristan, Ghazni, Uruzgan, Herat, Faryab and Jawzjan.

“The mission included six special operations and nine clearance operations in eight provinces. The Afghan Air Force conducted 93 flights during this mission,” the Afghan MoD said in its statement.

During the operations, the Afghan Army killed 76 fighters of the Taliban including three well-known commanders “Hsanullah”, “Haidar” and “Qahraman”. 14 other fighters of the radical group were also captured by the Afghan Army, according to the official statement of the Afghan MoD.

The Afghan Army carried out a similar series of operations against the Taliban on January 11, killing 23 fighters and a commander of the radical group and capturing 14 others in the eastern Nangarhar province.

While such military operations infect heavy casualties on the Taliban, it doesn’t always reduce its influence. In fact, some sources say that the radical group sees any civilian loses during such operations as a mean to recruit more fighters.

Usually they’d raid a whole village suspected hosting talibans killing every inhabitants for bogus or incomplete intel then proceed to label everyone dead as talibans with survivor herded into black site never to be seen again.
