The country is ready to recognize the autonomous region following the recent clashes with Azerbaijan.

Armenia Ready To Recognize Nagorno-Karabakh

The government of Armenia is ready to recognize the Republic of Artsakh, as they call the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, reported ARKA agency. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs headed by Minister Eduard Nalbandyan has prepared a draft law for this matter. The final decision, however, will be made by the Armenian MPs in the parliament.

The formation of the draft law was prompted by the negotiations between Yerevan and Stepanakert. Also, Armenia has taken into account possible future processes and external factors.

We remind you that in the beginning of April, when the situation on the contact line between Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan heated up,  the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan  warned that the country would recognize Nagorno-Karabakh if the situation escalates.

That’s not the first time when Armenia has thought of recognizing the breakaway republic. In 2009, there was a similar draft law but at that time the Armenian MPs rejected it due to peace concerns.
