The works have been going in the Franz Josef Land archipelago, the Novaya Zemlya, the Severnaya Zemlya Archipelago, on the Wrangel Island and Cape Schmidt and on the New Siberian Islands.
1,500 engineers of the Russian Federal Agency for Special Construction (Spetsstroy) work on the construction of Defense Ministry’s facilities in the Arctic. Spetsstroy has at least 13 contracts on the construction of military garrisons and airfields there.
The projects are implemented in the Franz Josef Land archipelago, the Novaya Zemlya, the Severnaya Zemlya Archipelago, on the Wrangel Island and Cape Schmidt and on the New Siberian Islands.
“Currently, 1,490 workers with 337 equipment units are engaged in the construction of Spetsstroy’s facilities in the Russian Arctic zone. An additional group of 105 highly skilled workers and engineering staff will arrive at the islands soon… The work is going non-stop and in two or three shifts during the polar night.” the Russian news agency, TASS, cites the Spetsstroy’s report.
