On July 24, al-Sharqiyah Brigades claimed responsibility for the recent attack on the al-Jibsah-al-Rayan gas pipeline in the northeastern region of Syria.

Saboteurs of the mysterious group blew up a section of the pipeline near the town of Abu Khashab in the northern Deir Ezzor countryside with an improvised explosive device on July 22.

The key pipeline moves natural gas produced by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) from al-Jibsah fields in the southern countryside of al-Hasakah to the government-run al-Rayan gas factory in Homs.

In a statement, the al-Sharqiyah Brigades said that the attack was a part of its promise to target Russian and Iranian interests in Syria. The group shared two photos of the attack.

This was the third attack by al-Sharqiyah Brigades on the al-Jibsah-al-Rayan gas pipeline this year. The first attack took place on February 27, while the second was on May 17.

“This was not our first strike, and will not be the last,” the group said in its most recent statement.

The al-Sharqiyah Brigades may act as a cover for ISIS or even Turkish-backed factions’ interests. Both sides have been attempting to disturb economic cooperation between the Damascus government and the SDF for a while now.
